A survey of 2,000 adults found that Brits plan to make excuses such as having a cold or flu and even food poisoning to give them time to do their Black Friday shopping.
While 40% of eager shoppers plan to set their alarms for 5:30am, to bag deals early just over a quarter will utilise work hours to make the most of the sales.
Comedian and actor Ellie Taylor has joined forces with cashback and rewards provider Rakuten, the company behind the research, to develop the 'Guide to Slack Friday’ a set of tips designed to assist Brits in successfully taking a sick day.
Those shopping on Black Friday expect to spend over £400, yet, 34% of savvy shoppers have an average of £176 worth of promotional codes, gift cards and vouchers that they have stockpiled over the year.
Christmas gifts top the list of priority purchases but other key items include household essentials such as soft furnishings, accessories and crockery; as well as children's shoes, coats and backpacks.
Another fifth of respondents will use it as an opportunity to buy for themselves or get ahead of birthdays.
Rakuten's shopping and trends expert, Alex Stedman, added: "As we approach Black Friday, using cashback sites to buy your Christmas gifts, or anything else you need outside of Christmas, is an easy strategy to ensure you're getting the best deal."
"Not only can you benefit from significant discounts during the sales period, but you also earn cashback on your purchases, creating a win-win situation. It's a simple way to maximise your budget."
