As my last story of 2024, here’s a look back at 24 awesome reality blurred stories from the year.
Disclaimer: The list below is kinda self-serving, in that it’s only stories on reality blurred, most of which I wrote. There are so many pieces by other writers and critics I loved, of course—and I shared in these pages and in my newsletter as I found them—but those aren’t here.
Instead, it’s more like a year-end reflection. I find it to be a valuable exercise to analyze my work, considering what was successful and what wasn’t, whether it helped advance the site’s mission or just brought me joy while writing (or reading) it.
In 2024, I wrote 292 stories, not including this one. And reality blurred published many more, from Hamsterwatch’s coverage of Big Brother to the true-crime from Best Evidence’s Sarah D. Bunting and Eve Batey and their contributors.
Below are a handful of those stories; if you’d like to follow my lead and browse every single story from the past year, you can do so in the archives. Otherwise, enjoy this curated list. And happy new year! 🎉
Top Chef doesn't want you to see this 'sensitive information'
Of all my reporting this year, this piece on Top Chef Wisconsin took the longest—years, since my first attempt to get similar records was thwarted. But now you can see what a state paid Top Chef's producers for, and decide for yourself whether that's a good use of public money.
