Shopping for bedding is not something you really think about until you're in the market for an upgrade. Then, you're met with an overwhelming amount of options. Cotton! Silk! Linen! Thread counts! What does it all mean?

Crafting the right recipe for the perfect sleep includes the sheets you use. Think of them as the base ingredient, if you will, like flour in (nearly) every cookie recipe. Though sheets can feel like a boring or insignificant piece of the pie (I'll stop with the baking references now, I promise), without it, things just aren't quite right. If you've ever stayed at a hotel, you know just how impactful sheets can be. The right set keeps you cool (hot sleepers, unite), feels soft against your skin, and washes well (because you should be tossing them in the laundry once a week).

If you're on the hunt for some new bedding, Buffy carries a line of comforters, sheets, duvet covers, and pillows to elevate your sleep situation. The brand recently revamped its Supima Cotton Sheet Set ($128, originally $150), which is made from 100 percent American Supima cotton, a longer type of fiber that results in a softer finish and increased durability.

Three of our editors put the bedding to the test and rated it on a scale of one to five. Ahead, keep reading for our full reviews and find out if the sheets are worth the splurge.

"Buffy's Supima Cotton Sheet Set appears to be a standard, no-frills situation at first glance — almost like what you'd expect to see in a hotel room — but after a full night's sleep, the difference is clear. The Supima cotton is comparably softer to the touch than any of my other sheets, and it has a crisp, cooling effect overnight. I often sweat in my sleep as a side effect of my anxiety medication, but I wake up perfectly dry with these sheets.

Some details I appreciate are the inner flap on the pillowcase and the head/foot tag on the fitted sheet, which helps you align it seamlessly with your mattress. However, I do have an extremely deep, multi-layered mattress, so I always look for stirrup straps on all four corners as an added bonus to keep everything in place. Since these sheets don't have that feature, I opted to purchase the king-size set (even though my mattress is technically a queen), and I was pleasantly surprised by the fit. If anything, there's just a bit of excess fabric along the sides to account for the different dimensions, but the sheets are absolutely deep enough to encompass all four mattress corners." — Sarah Wasilak, associate director, shop

"When it comes to choosing sheets, I always prefer natural fibers. I find that synthetic textiles like bamboo or microfiber aren't as breathable and comfortable as organic. I was a bit hesitant when I first felt this Buffy sheet set right out of the box because its texture felt similar to a man-made material — sleek and a bit slippery. Luckily, after an initial wash, the sheets softened to the natural-fiber feel I've come to love.

The Buffy set has continued to keep me cool throughout the night, even when sharing a bed in the steam heat from a 100-year-old New York City radiator. Yes, the sheets are a bit pricey — coming in at $175 for a full-sized set — but considering it's made with the highest quality cotton, it's well worth it for a better night's sleep and a fabric that will long outlast any other set made with synthetic fibers." — Rayna Rossitto, editor, Vox Media

Buffy Supima Cotton Sheet Set ($128, originally $150)

"I'm not the best sleeper. I never have been, but I'm not going to go as far as saying I never will be because I'm holding out hope that'll change eventually. Because of that, I put a lot of thought into my sleep situation, from my mattress to my pillows and, of course, my bedding. I typically prefer bright white sheets because they remind me of sleeping in a hotel, and I like natural fibers like cotton, which are easy to wash and can stand the test of time. Buffy's Supima Cotton Sheet Set not only checks all of those requirement boxes for me but also impressed me beyond expectation. Made from elite, 100 percent Supima cotton, these sheets feel so soft and comfortable against my skin. They're breathable (a must if you run hot at night) but not too thin and flimsy — the fabric has a substantial weight to it. Sleeping in them truly rivals a hotel experience.

Each set comes with a fitted sheet, a top sheet, and two pillowcases — all of which wash beautifully and feel crisp when you climb into bed. Though I personally went with white, the brand offers 14 beautiful colors to fit every space. Now, I'm itching to spice things up with the Laurel Green set." — Jessica Harrington, senior editor, beauty
