Did you just get a PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, or PlayStation VR2 for Christmas? If so, you’ve come to the right place. One of the best things you can do is buy a PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra subscription, as that will give you access to a large catalog of games from every PlayStation platform to check out on your new hardware. As for more specific recommendations, this week I want to highlight some of the hidden gems that were part of December’s addition to PS Plus. That includes a Star Wars game that’s one of the best PSVR2 titles, an eerie Alien game that you only have another week or so to claim, and an underrated 2023 indie.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge — Enhanced Edition
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge Enhanced Edition - Official Trailer | PS VR2
One standout launch title for PSVR2 was Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge — Enhanced Edition. This is a VR game that does a fantastic job of whisking players away and immersing them in various parts of the Star Wars world as a Jedi, bounty hunter, and more. That includes a digital version of Batuu, the planet that Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney World is based on. It’s still one of the best games you can play on PSVR2 and worth checking out for any Star Wars fan. In general, PS Plus Premium’s VR game catalog is worth it for anyone who owns Sony’s headset. Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is simply the latest cherry on top.
The PSVR2 version of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge — Enhanced Edition is available to PS Plus Premium subscribers. It’s also available on Meta Quest VR headsets.
Aliens: Dark Descent
Aliens: Dark Descent - Reveal Trailer
In addition to the PS Plus Premium and Extra additions in the middle of each month, three PS Plus Essential titles are also available monthly. You have a limited time to download these, but they’re yours forever after doing so. If you’re still on a sci-fi kick after Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, consider checking out Aliens: Dark Descent. That game doesn’t play quite like any other Aliens game out there, as it’s a shooter infused with elements from CRPGs. If you’re a fan of this franchise, make sure you download Aliens: Dark Descent while you still can.
The PS4 and PS5 versions of Aliens: Dark Descent will be available through PS Plus Essential until January 6. It’s also available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S through Game Pass.
A Space for the Unbound
A Space for The Unbound Trailer
A Space for the Unbound is one of the more emotionally moving indie games to have released in recent years. It follows high school kids who gain superpowers that allow them to alter reality and dive into people’s minds to fix whatever’s bothering them. This sets the stage for an adventure that’s equal parts romantic and tragic. It does a fantastic job of capturing the vibe and aesthetic of 1990s Indonesia through its detailed pixel art. I don’t want to spoil much about this game, as the less you know going in the better, but just know it’s one of the must-play indies now included in the PS Plus Extra game catalog.
The PS4 and PS5 versions of A Space for the Unbound are available as part of the PS Plus Extra game catalog. It’s also on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

3 new PS Plus games to play this weekend (November 8-10)
Earlier this week, November's batch of three new PlayStation Plus Essential titles dropped. Between now and December 2, PS Plus subscribers of all tiers can redeem these games for free. It's a good batch of titles, too. We not only have a brand new Death Note game launching onto the service, but also an enjoyable all-ages racing game and an exhilarating horror action title. If you're a PS Plus subscriber wondering what to play this weekend, any of these Essential monthly games can offer up a good time.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo - February 2022 Official Showcase | PS5
Ghostwire: Tokyo is the highest-profile PS Plus Essential game of the month. Tango Gameworks released this as a PS5 exclusive shortly after Microsoft acquired it. In the two-and-a-half years since its release, Tango brought Ghostwire: Tokyo to Xbox, released Hi-Fi Rush, got shut down by Microsoft, and was then revived by Krafton. That makes it fascinating to revisit Ghostwire: Tokyo now and see the last horror-infused swing the studio took before all of those wild things happened to it. Ghostwire: Tokyo is an entertaining supernatural action game where players fight Japanese demons with magic, and it's a worthy download for any PS Plus subscriber.

3 new PS Plus games that you should check out (November 1-3)
We've still got to wait a little longer before November's PlayStation Plus Essential monthly titles become available. For PS Plus subscribers who are looking for something to play but don't want to spend money on new games like Life is Strange: Double Exposure or Dragon Age: The Veilguard, October's list of PS Plus Extra game catalog additions was vast enough that there's still more great stuff there for you to try out. Those are the games I'm recommending you try out this weekend.
Return to Monkey Island
Return to Monkey Island | Gameplay Reveal Trailer
The Monkey Island series of adventure games helped put LucasArts on the map in the 1990s and still stand the test of time as some of the best titles in the genre. In 2022, series creator Ron Gilbert and designer Dave Grossman released a new game in the franchise called Return to Monkey Island. It once again stars pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he clashes with LeChuck while trying to find the secret of Monkey Island. Return to Monkey Island plays well on a controller for a point-and-click adventure game and still sports the classic humor in writing and puzzle design that made the originals iconic.

3 new PS Plus games to check out this weekend (October 25-27)
Halloween is next week, so you should get in the mood for it by playing some spooky games. Thankfully, several horror titles came to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog this month. From horror classics for the PS1 and PS2 to newer games with more modern storytelling and choose-your-own-adventure sensibilities, PS Plus subscribers will have a lot to choose from when they're looking for something to play this weekend. These are three newer highlights that fit that bill.
Dino Crisis
State of Play | September 24, 2024 [ENGLISH]
While Resident Evil is Capcom's flagship survival horror game series, it's not the only one they've ever had. There was also Dino Crisis, a horror game that swaps out the zombies for dinosaurs. While this series ended after three games and faded into obscurity, Capcom is finally acknowledging it again with a PS Plus re-release of the first game. I'm happy it did this, as the game is worth revisiting in 2024. If you can get used to its dated tank controls and menu design, you have a really solid and surprisingly cinematic retro horror game that deserves more love than it gets. If you've never tried Dino Crisis before, this Halloween gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. Dino Crisis is available on PS4 and PS5 as part of the PS Plus Premium Classics Catalog.
