San Francisco 49ers star pass rusher Nick Bosa was hit with a fine of $11,255 for a violation of the NFL uniform and equipment rules. This stems from him wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat in support of now President-elect Donald Trump.

Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL rulebook gives more context on why the fine was handed down to the 49ers star.

"throughout the period on game-day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office."

After Bosa wore the hat during the postgame interview, he declined to go into any details.

"I'm not gonna talk too much about it," Bosa said, "but I think it's an important time."

The 49ers star has long been a vocal supporter of the President-elect but has toned down his rhetoric of late. He acknowledged that due to his being drafted by San Francisco, he needed to cool things down.

"I had to," Bosa said to ESPN in 2019. "There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco."

The pass rusher acknowledged that wearing the hat was "worth it" even with the impending fine coming down the line. He gave his thoughts on Trump winning the election, continuing his support.

"I don't think my position on speaking about it is gonna change," Bosa said. "Clearly, the nation spoke, and we got what we got."

Bosa has been one of the better pass rushers in the league since he was drafted No. 2 overall by San Francisco in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has helped the 49ers reach two Super Bowls and has given them a dominant piece to their defensive unit.

He won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022, leading the entire league with 18.5 sacks. Anytime Bosa is out on the field, opposing offenses have to gameplan for him due to his ability to completely wreak havoc in a game.

San Francisco holds a record of 4-4 on the season and is coming off a crucial bye week. They will look to make a push to the postseason and could get a big boost with running back Christian McCaffrey making his season debut this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
