Tyler Perry and several cast members have teased a third film, nearly 15 years after the 2010 sequel.
A new Why Did I Get Married film from Tyler Perry may be on the way…
At least, that’s what fans think after several cast members including Richard T. Jones, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Sharon Leal, and Denise Boutte tease a potential reboot of the hit film franchise— nearly 15 years after 2010’s Why Did I Get Married Too?
It all started with a video Jones shared on TikTok on Friday (Oct. 18) of him on a flight with the caption, “POV: I had to make Sheila drive again. See you on the the mountain though.” With over 1.5 million likes on the initial post and countless reshares across social platforms, fans were cackling in the comments.
It didn’t take long for the video to hit the pseudo group chat as Scott responded the following day on Instagram. Posting on behalf of herself and fictional husband Lamman Rucker (Troy), she sat in her car in full character and expressed, “I cannot believe that Mike would do this to me again. Well, I’ma tell you something— I’m gonna get up this mountain.”
The singer captioned the video, “Kick a woman while she’s down huh? Mike is a whole [a**].”
After Smith was previously summoned, her comment under Scott’s post that read, “I’m going to gut Mike like a fish,” with a series of laughing emojis wasn’t enough. She and White, her fictional husband, shared their video response while watching Scott’s video.
“I’m so sick of him. I am so sick of him. Marcus! Can you believe that he did this to Sheila again?” said Smith. White looked visibly confused as she attempted to pull some improv out of him. Viewers, though, eagerly awaited him to drop his infamous line: “You know what I’m saying?” Unfortunately, he didn’t.
Leal, who played Perry’s wife Diane, spoke on how good of a spouse she is because she hasn’t forgotten her husband’s birthday anymore.
“My career takes a backseat to my beautiful, amazing husband and my family. This I know. Nobody’s gonna be calling me asking what are we doing for Terry’s birthday. Who’s a good wife? Diane is […] I know exactly why I got married,” said the Dreamgirls actress in a true dramatic fashion.
Meanwhile, Trina (Boutte) played Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé’s “Savage Remix” in the background of her video response as she asked for redemption.
“So, I was pretty silent at the dinner table, but after all these years of calling me ‘Tricky Trina,’ a hoochie, oh and a garden tool, I just want you all to know that I have had nothing but love for Sheila,” Boutte explained.
With a sinister chuckle, she joked, “Ya girl just wanted a free vacation… with benefits.”
Following the consecutive reactions from the cast, fans awaited commentary from Janet Jackson and of course, the film’s writer-director, Tyler Perry himself.
He didn’t share a video, but he further egged on the potential third film with a photo that appeared to be a draft titled Why Did I Get Married Again.
One thing for sure and two things for certain: the general consensus is that we need a third (and maybe final) chapter of Why Did I Get Married? Despite Perry already creating a television spinoff of the films in For Better Or Worse, that six-season series only centered around Angela and Marcus.
Now, it’s time for the OG cast to reunite formally. So, we have compiled five things we need to see from the next installment of this cinematic series.
-
A new love interest for Patricia (Janet Jackson)
After losing her son and the untimely, tragic death of her husband, Gavin, amidst their messy divorce, Jackson’s character ended Why Did I Get Married Too with a potential new suitor — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
However, that love story can end right there. At this point, we’re ready to see Patricia date. Ideally, she would’ve spent the past 15 years teaching psychology classes on grief and healing. Now, she’s more equipped than ever to get back out there and her friends are right there willing to help.
Whether it’s dating apps, blind dates, or meeting men in the wild, Patricia needs to get her groove back. Somebody get Morris Chestnut, Ernie Hudson, or Leon on the line.

Each Couple Tackles A New Struggle
Every couple needs to shake their respective tables.
In For Better Or Worse, the TV spinoff focused on Angela and Marcus, she found she was pregnant, but suffered a miscarriage. Marcus, though, learned that he had a 17-year-old daughter and the child he thought he had with Keisha wasn’t his. These two need to be seen in a mature albeit comical light.
Over the years, Angela would’ve tried to have their rainbow baby as Marcus continued to cultivate his relationship with his estranged daughter. It would be hilarious to see Marcus become a new father and grandfather at the same time while having to deal with Angela and his daughter pregnant, simultaneously.
Sheila and Troy would’ve had a second child — a daughter — and now they have to deal with two polar opposite teenagers in the home. The two would be parenting a son, who wants to be a first responder like his father, and a daughter, who is trying to manage her bisexual identity.
Meanwhile, Diane and Terry are the new Pat and Gavin. For once, they’re the couple without issues as they live in retirement bliss with an empty nest until Diane runs into her former work crush, Phil, and old insecurities resurface.

Mike And His ’80/20′ Podcast
In honor of his late friend and the notorious rule that altered his life, Mike has retired from the force and started a podcast to help men avoid making the same relationship mistakes he did.
On the 80/20 podcast, Mike’s a**hole tendencies would pop up occasionally, but for the most part, he would’ve calmed a bit. These days, he’s more vulnerable and reflective especially since he’s been trying to find Sheila’s qualities in other women but to no avail.
Thus, he ends every episode the same: “And remember, if you have a good woman, put her first or another man will.” He proceeds to play a medley of William Bell’s “I Forgot To Be Your Lover” and Jaheim’s “Put That Woman First.”
-
The Return And Redemption Of Trina
Trina being a savage — both then and now — is so on-brand, but it’s evident that she’s ready for redemption.
She and Sheila have since reconciled, especially given the latter’s new marriage, so Sheila has attempted to welcome her into the larger friend group. Angela still has her reservations, but otherwise, they’re cordial. However, things get a bit messy when Trina learns that Patricia is dating her father — who’d be played by Ernie Hudson.
Things get messier when Trina unknowingly starts dating Angela and Marcus’ adult (and now estranged) son.

Film Or Limited Series?
There are a lot of story and character arches to consider here, so another film might not do the franchise justice. Perry should consider taking a note from And Just Like That and The Best Man: Final Chapters to expand Why Did I Get Married 3 into a limited series.
Even though quick films are on-brand for the entertainment mogul, imagine what can be done if he enlists some help (i.e. a writer’s room) and really gives this franchise the conclusion it deserves.
Yet, regardless of which route he chooses to take, we’ll be tuned in.
