50 Cent’s Year on Social Media: Abstinence, Ja Rule, Diddy, and More

2 days ago 3

50 Cent knows exactly what he ’s doing.

Over the past year, Fif’s Instagram has been further solidified as a near-constant source of real-time commentary on all manner of news, whether unfathomably major or preposterously inconsequential. There seems to be no legitimate story or questionable rumor (or random chance to deride longtime Fif mockery recipient Ja Rule) too big, or too small, to be considered a prime candidate for the headlines-guaranteeing process of, let’s call it, Fif-ification.

There’s typically a formula, of sorts, in place in these instances. Namely, regardless of the level of potential offensiveness of any given statement, it must always be accompanied by matter-of-fact mentions of 50’s Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi brands. While this approach occasionally sees 50 making some deeply unfortunate remarks, the larger process at play here is clearly working for him. Seriously, consider this: When prepping this piece, it took me a decidedly not-brief amount of time to sift through all the Complex headlines spurred solely by Fif’s IG over the past 12 months.

In the spirit of the usual end-of-year mania fueled largely by our vulnerabilities to instant nostalgia, we’ve compiled a few highlights from 50’s year on Instagram. By the time this piece is published, there’s a good chance Fif will have already shared the latest entry in this ongoing series.

Practicing abstinence

Mere days into a new year, 50 cited a particularly “big” idea that would require a very particular type of focus from him. As such, he was taking sex off the table.

"My new idea is so big, I don’t have time to be distracted,” Fif said. “I’m practicing abstinence, I have been meditating and focusing on my goals.”

Meet Mr. Make a Deal

Fif still remembers what some said about him after his 2022 Super Bowl performance.

“I done turned into Mr. Let’s Make a Deal on these hoes,” 50 said in January.. “[T]he fvck you gonna tell me now? Yall was calling me fat at the super bowl … don’t think I forgot that shit!”

Ja Rule

In February, a wave of jokes erupted playfully positing that 50 Cent may have been responsible for Ja Rule not being able to get into the U.K. for a run of tour dates. 50, however, was quick to dispel any such talk, saying on IG that he had “nothing to do with this b!tch not getting in.”

Later in the year, 50 and Ja found themselves back in headlines together once again, this time thanks to a jokingly theorized Knicks curse.

“I gotta learn to shut the fuck up.”

Self-awareness is key. When looking back on an old video of him flirting with Vivica A. Fox, 50 concisely expressed regret about the televised moment.

J. Cole

“Call my phone right now!” 50 said after Cole shocked the world with his decision to bow out of the Kendrick and Drake beef. Unlike the others on this list, this comment came via an X post, not IG.

Drake

After Drake’s controversial “Taylor Made Freestyle” arrived in April, 50 urged everyone to “leave this man alone.” 50 later revealed the advice he says he gave Drake when the two saw each other earlier this year.

Ice cream price concerns

A spur-of-the-moment ice cream truck excursion left 50 feeling perplexed by the priciness of the product.

“What happened to $1.25? This can’t be right,” he said.

Dame Dash

50 couldn’t help but mock Dame as “broke for real” after that whole teeth-falling-out incident, at one point mockingly urging the public to not “go out like Dame.”

Luigi Mangione

Adding to his slate of upcoming projects, 50 recently let fans know that he was planning a documentary about Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old charged in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare exec Brian Thompson.

“I kinda like this killer,” 50 said this month.

Diddy

50 has had a lot to say about Diddy, both in the run-up to the Bad Boy Records founder's arrest this year on racketeering and trafficking charges and amid the various legal proceedings that have followed. Along the way, he’s also brought Jay-Z into the mix.

Amid news of Jay being named in a since-disputed lawsuit alongside Diddy, 50 went as far as to share a fake A.I.-generated clip imagining Diddy and Jay being arrested together. 50 has since expressed his hope for a positive outcome regarding Jay’s involvement in the suit in question, which Jay himself has publicly slammed as the work of a “fraud.”

Diddy is also the focus of an upcoming Netflix docuseries from 50.

Stay tuned for more from 50 in 2025.
