The Pokemon franchise is home to some of the most lovable characters in gaming history and the best part is that they come in all shapes and sizes. From Eevee to Shaymin, these are the cutest Pokemon you’ll find in the Pokedex.

The world of Pokemon has over 1000 unique creatures, and there’s a particular type for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a Water-type, a cat Pokemon, a dog Pokemon, or a fierce Fire-type, it can be hard to choose a favorite.

While some trainers prioritize building up their team with the most powerful creatures like Charizard or Legendaries like Rayquaza, others are simply looking for the cutest designs out there. So, here’s our ranking of the 30 cutest Pokemon of all time.

50. Chingling

Based on festive Holiday bells, Chingling’s not a huggable, fluffy mammal like most of the entries you’ll find here, but it more than makes up for its cold, metallic exterior by emitting charming ringing sounds as a means of emoting.

Continuing the musical trend, Chingling becomes an elongated chime when evolving into Chimeco, rivaling its pre-evolution in the cuteness department but being inched out ever so slightly by the latter due to its compact nature and adorably stubby limbs.

49. Plusle & Minun

Type: Electric

Due to their near-identical likeness, minus which end of the magnetic spectrum they represent, Plusle and Minun come as a package deal. Like most Pikachu clones, the Electric types don’t have an evolution and aren’t particularly useful in combat.

Still, they make up for their lack of battle prowess with the adorable tendency to act as a cheerleader for their Trainer, emitting electricity to show its joy when teammates perform well.

Okay, so there’s a caveat to this one. Nobody knows what Mimikyu truly looks like, as it hides its true appearance under a disguise intended to look like Pikachu.

Playing fast and loose with what constitutes a single Pokemon, Maushold is a literal family of mice housed under a single Pokedex entry. To sidestep explaining how children are made, the Gen 9 ‘mon’s Pokedex entry states that the younger mice “just appeared one day” and that their familial relationship is unclear.

Whatever the case, Maushold is an adorable concept and isn’t too shabby in battle, either. It has access to several unique abilities, including its signature 10-hit attack, Population Bomb.

46. Petilil

One of Black & White’s more endearing designs, mono Grass-type Petilil is minute, friendly, and doughy-eyed – all the classic prerequisites for a cute Pokemon. Impressive, considering it’s essentially just a shrub yet to blossom (read: evolve) into Lilligant, which subsequently sees the leaves on its head sprout into a flower.

As a plus, removing the leaves on its head don’t appear to harm Petilil (don’t worry, they grow back), and can be used to brew a medicinal drink.

Proof that any unremarkable object can be molded into a lovable critter, Tatsugiri is based on different types of sushi, right down to its inflated throat sac serving as the surrogate for a rice bed.

Without contest, Tatsugiri is the smallest Dragon-type to date, a size deficit it more than makes up for with cunning and the ability to defend itself via a symbiotic relationship with Dondozo.

44. Shinx

27. Happiny

26. Stufful

Like Teddiursa, Pancham, Kubfu, and many others, Stufful is based on a bear cub. Bear cubs are already established as some of the cutest creatures in the world, which is probably why Pokemon decided to take inspiration from them several times.

In Stufful’s case, its bear design is mixed with pink and white tones that along with its very round head makes it look like a giant candy. The pointy ears, round tail, big chunky paws, and smile can melt the iciest heart.

However, Stufful dislikes being touched, so you’ll have to appreciate it from a safe distance.

25. Hatenna

An oddly-colored waterfowl it may be, but Ducklett is, by and large, just a real-world duck.

Game Freak didn’t even try to hide that fact with the ‘mon’s name, but hey, why try and improve on perfection? Ducks are cute as they are, so barring some minor stylistic flourishes, Ducklett, like its Earthly counterpart, is a no-brainer for inclusion here.

23. Wooper

The amphibious Wooper is based on an axolotl, which is already a cute creature. Throw in one of the widest mouths in the franchise along with the smallest eyes and you have one funny – though sweet-looking – creature.

What adds to Wooper’s appeal is that it’s a dull-witted Pokemon oblivious to its surroundings. Because of its timid and childish nature, it prefers to stay close to its evolved form, Quagsire, for protection.

The fact that Wooper has no arms could be creepy, by in its tiny body and with that face, it only makes it more endearing.

22. Dratini

The OG Dragon Pokemon, Dratini, like all of its Gen 1 brethren, benefits from being of the classic Pokemon design, complete with puppy dog eyes that melt even the coldest heart.

The fox inspiration along with the wide eyes, fluffy tuft and tail, along with the sweet and delicate cry put both Vulpix versions on our ranking.

Plus, the regular form was one of Brock’s Pokemon in the OG anime, so there’s an extra attachment to this foxy creature.

The singing Pokemon known as Jigglypuff has long been the unofficial face of ‘cute’ in the Pokemon franchise, appearing on all kinds of merch like t-shirts and phone cases.

It may have been pushed down the list by newer Pokemon over the last two decades, but it just about holds onto a spot in our top 10, mainly due to that adorable tuft of fur on its head and incredibly big round eyes.

In the anime, Jigglypuff showed its larger-than-life personality by chasing Ash and the gang just to sign to them. Unfortunately, it became very frustrated by the fact that everybody kept falling asleep in every performance.

All of the original Kanto starters are worthy of the term ‘cute’, but we think Squirtle is even more adorable than Charmander and Bulbasaur, and it’s mostly due to its incredibly fun and loveable personality.

This tortoise-inspired creature hides away inside its shell when it feels threatened and has one of the most recognizable cries. Even when it’s trying to be cool as a shades-wearing member of the Squirtle Squad gang, it fails because it’s just too charming.

Eventually, it loses its cuteness when it evolves into the mighty Blastoise. However, it’s an amazing Water-type Pokemon to have on your team, so don’t be sad.

18. Pichu

Petite, wide-eyed, and unfailingly happy, Pichu, like the franchise mascot that it evolves into, captures the hearts of all who lay eyes on it with its big ears and trademark cheek pads.

When the Galar region starters were unveiled ahead of Pokemon Sword & Shield, the obvious standout for lovers of all things cute was definitely the ultimate sad boy, Sobble.

This Water-type Pokemon’s defining trait is bursting into tears whenever it’s scared – we can relate to that – so it’s only natural that we all just want to hold it close and give it a hug.

This sobbing lizard with huge eyes is elusive and quite timid, and it might be even hard to spot as it can turn itself invisible when wet.

15. Marshadow

But one of three Mythical Pokemon to appear on this list, Marshadow is also one of few Ghost-types not designed to look outwardly unsettling. What it’s based on isn’t clear, though in Pokedex entries, it’s said to never appear before humans, able to occupy their shadows to remain hidden in plain sight.

Marshadow was the only Ghost/Fighting-type Pokemon in the entire franchise until the infinitely angrier Annihilape was introduced in Scarlet & Violet.

Similar to Ducklett, Furret isn’t so much the result of an inspiration but a stylized version of a real-world animal, in this case, ferrets.

13. Azurill

The incredibly small size plus the color, round ears, and the fact that it walks by bouncing on its own tail (which is the same size as its whole body) makes Azurill extremely cute and loveable.

In the anime, Piplup was introduced as Dawn’s Pokemon, and it became one of the highlights of the show thanks to the clash between its endearing look and incredibly bad temper and competitiveness.

Emolga is a very resourceful fella that uses its cheeks to produce electric shocks to grill its food – talk about a chef – but it also has a temper, so be careful.

The best part of Emolga? It doesn’t have an evolution, so you can travel with it and level it up all you want without it changing forms.

7. Teddiursa

It might be controversial to place the Ice-type Cubchoo above the likes of Pikachu and Mew, but can you blame us? Even the snot coming out of its nose is somehow adorable.

Similar to Teddiursa and bears, baby polar bears are some of the cutest animals in the world – and if we could, we would be running towards them to hug their fluffy bodies – so of course Pokemon had to add their own version to their Pokedex.

Like many on this list, Cubchoo evolves into one of the least-cute Pokemon in the franchise, the intimidating Beartic. But until that happens, you’ll just want to give it a big hug.

Spoink was designed by an angel and sent to this earthly plane by the heavens themselves. Every aspect of its design is worth fawning over. Cute little eyes, pink cheek pads to lovingly pinch, a ball it balances on its head and plays with? It’s too much.

The star of the show, of course, is the springy tail that Spoink uses to hop around on, and also part of its tragic lore. If it ever stops bouncing on its tail, which causes its heart to pump, it’ll die.

While Pikachu may be the most iconic Pokemon of all time, it’s another Kanto region creature that’s earned the top spot on our cute list… Eevee! Is it a fox? Is it a cat? A dog? No one really knows, but maybe it’s the fact that it takes the most adorable parts of all of these animals that makes it so irresistible. Eevee is without a doubt the cutest Pokemon ever thanks to its design, sweet and calm nature, and also its iconic evolutions.

We can agree that several Eeveelutions are incredible. However, the Fairy-type Sylveon is the ultimate fan-favorite thanks to its lovely pastel pink color scheme, good type, and incredible power, and while some might be put off by its mildly unsettling stare, most trainers love this Gen 6 beauty.
