A little girl's dreams came true when her parents surprised her with a puppy after she manifested the idea for more than a year.
Six-year-old Dakota "Koko" Pfeiffer lives in Tampa, Florida, with her mom, Rebecca Pfeiffer, dad and, now, her golden retriever puppy, Trinity.
The puppy "likes to tuck Koko in at night and falls asleep with her, which she loves," Rebecca Pfeiffer told Newsweek. "She is so loved and we can tell she knows it."
The road to getting a puppy was long, with Koko dedicating her life to the breed long before she got a puppy of her own.
"She just had this affinity to them when she'd see them," Pfeiffer said. "If a neighbor had one, or one would come on the television, she would lose her mind with excitement. And it just grew and grew."
This affinity was captured in a video to Pfeiffer's Instagram page, @luvbecstyle, on December 9 that has more than 165,000 likes.
It started by showing Koko being "obsessed" with goldens, from carrying around a framed photo of one, getting a golden-colored balloon animal at a party, buying golden stuffed animals, and spending her pocket money on a golden retriever T-shirt. Her bedroom, naturally, was also filled with all things golden.
"It turned into her coloring them all the time, making 3D art of golden retrievers, dressing in anything golden retriever related," Pfeiffer said. "She was even a golden retriever for Halloween!"
And finally, Koko got her wish, as the video ends with the little girl being presented with a puppy of her very own, as Pfeiffer wrote: "Christmas just came early."
A second video, posted the same day and boasting 60,000 likes of its own, showed Koko's reaction in full, with the 6-year-old first appearing not to believe her eyes.
"This is the best day ever," she announced, before thanking her parents profusely and cuddling up to her new pet.
Pfeiffer said giving Trinity to Koko was "the best moment ever," after she and her husband, who already have two dogs, tried to put off getting a puppy for as long as possible.
But, she said, "the desire was only growing stronger."
"We even had some girls at our homeschool co-op create posters with pictures of golden retrievers saying 'team Koko,' trying to coerce us into getting her her dream dog," she said.
"When my husband and I heard her say 'dreams do come true, we knew it was all worth it and we'd made the right decision."
Instagram users agreed, as thousands commented on Pfeiffer's video sharing in Koko's joy, one writing: "Was not expecting to cry but this dog-loving adult definitely cried! So so happy for your daughter! That's going to be the most loved golden ever!"
"This got me! So happy for her," another wrote, as one called it "so precious."
And as one put it: "Omg I'm NOT crying!!!!!!! This will hands down be the most loved dog in the world!"
Golden retrievers have long been popular family pets, with the breed known for their friendly, loyal and obedient nature, and being good with young children, according to the American Kennel Club.
Koko, meanwhile, has been inspired to become a dog trainer and own a doggy daycare when she's older, and is getting practice in by training Trinity.
"Her first task of business has been to try to teach her to sit," Pfeiffer said. "We're still working on it."
