Known as man's best friend, a pet dog can bring so much joy to a household, but there are so many breeds to choose from – whether from your local shelter or a verified dog breeder.
Some people might prefer to have a medium-sized dog for a number of reasons; firstly, they may feel more protected when walking their dog.
With winter coming, the evenings will become darker and darker, and some people may not feel comfortable taking a walk once it's dark outside if they only had a little pooch.
And, secondly, there's less risk of a medium-sized dog getting under your feet while in the house like a small dog would. Another possible reason to prefer a medium-sized dog is that your place is simply not large enough for a very big dog.
Or maybe the strength of a very big dog may feel overwhelming; whichever the reason you prefer a medium-sized dog, here are some of the cutest breeds around.
Bulldog
Described by the American Kennel Club as "friendly, courageous, and calm", a Bulldog can reach up to 15 inches in height and weigh around 50 pounds.
This sturdy breed are super loyal to their favourite human and may try to snuggle up on your lap for a nap.

Known to be "bright, fun-loving and upbeat" by the American Kennel Club, the Brittany can reach heights of 20.5 inches and weigh up to 40 pounds.

Regarded as "dignified, bright and serious-minded", the Chow-chow can weigh in at a heavy 70 pounds while only reaching a height of 20 inches.
With a lion-like mane of hair, they take after the cat species in that they can be hard to please.

Seen as "outgoing and smart", the Dalmatian can grow as tall as 24 inches and weigh up to 70 pounds.

Viewed as "lively, clever and confident", the Polish Lowland Sheepdog weighs in at 30 to 50 pounds and stands tall at 20 inches.
