Shekinah Garner opened up about an unsuccessful plastic surgery procedure that fans may have noticed during the final scenes of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.
“I had really bad Botox done in Turkey right before filming the last scenes of the season,” Shekinah, 42, told fans via her Instagram Story on Thursday, November 14. “It froze half of my jaw, making my mouth crooked and chin look huge. I was so upset it ruined my face for these major life moments.”
In the slide, she included a close-up photo of herself applying lip gloss to give fans a clear look at how the Botox affected her face.
Fans watched during the November 11 episode as Shekinah’s boyfriend, Sarper Güven, got on one knee and asked the U.S. native to marry him. The former male stripper, 44, who was known for sleeping with more than 2,500 women, shocked Shekinah by planning a romantic proposal on a yacht.
The festivities continued as Shekinah and Sarper participated in a traditional Turkish engagement ceremony in front of his family. The ceremony featured a tradition where the bride-to-be prepared a coffee for the groom-to-be, but, as Sarper’s sister directed Shekinah, it had to be made in a way the groom wouldn’t like.
“Like salty … and when he’s drinking the coffee, with even all the salt in his taste, he shouldn’t even blink … like nothing is different,” she explained. If Sarper reacted slightly to the bad-tasting coffee, it would be considered a “bad curse” in their culture.
Shekinah poured in a bowl full of salt to test if Sarper was “really ready” to marry her. “That coffee … Oh my God. It was disgusting,” Sarper said in a private confessional. “I try to not give any reaction. I don’t know if I did it.” The Turkey native passed the test and the pair left the ceremony successfully engaged.
Shekinah and Sarper first introduced their romance to fans on season 5 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, which aired on TLC from July to December 2023. The pair met after Shekinah took a trip to Turkey with a girlfriend and downloaded a dating app to “see what Turkish men” were like. Sarper and Shekinah instantly connected on their first date, and Shekinah kept their bond alive by returning to Turkey two months after her initial visit.
After a year of dating, the couple took a significant step in their relationship when Shekinah moved to Sarper’s home. During season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Shekinah revealed their K-1 visa had gotten approved, however, the personal trainer wasn’t convinced about moving to the United States. Their romance has seemingly stayed strong as Sarper was in the United States for the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 6 tell-all.
“Two years ago, if somebody said that you will be in the U.S. I would be laughing with my ass,” Sarper said in the trailer for the Sunday, November 17, episode. The couple is set to take the hot seat during the special as a former lover of Sarper is set to join the group.
