What started as a Swiftie sea celebration quickly turned into a harrowing high-seas search.
During a Taylor Swift-themed cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, a 66-year-old woman fell overboard just north of Nassau in the Bahamas — the accident happened at approximately 9:40 PM on Tuesday, October 22.
The cruise, which departed from Miami the day before, was supposed to be a celebration of all things Taylor Swift, but it sadly went sideways as rescue teams from both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force have been searching tirelessly for the missing passenger. As of Wednesday, October 23, there has been no sign of her.
"Our crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort and is working with local authorities," a spokesperson told E! News. "We are also providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time. To respect the privacy of our guest's family, we have no additional details to share."
A video of cruise passengers lining the rails after the woman fell overboard quickly made its way to TikTok, sparking a frenzy of reactions online.
"Been on cruises. Drunk people sit on top of railings. The ships rock like crazy. It's insane," one person commented. (There is no information about the passenger's state of mind before falling off the ship.)
"What a nightmare that would be, if you survive the impact. If you have not been on a cruise, you have not seen darkness like the ocean in the middle of the night," pointed out another.
"Have I ever been on a cruise? No. Am I sitting on my couch in my house panicked I'll fall overboard on one? Yes," chimed in a third.
"It warms my heart to see such a great many people care about one person 🥰," another said.
According to US Weekly, travel agents Nicole Rivera, Shelby Reyes, and Jessica Malerman organized the Swift-themed bash with Royal Caribbean, dubbed "In my cruise era." The 34-year-old "Cruel Summer" singer herself is not involved with the cruise and the identity of the woman who fell overboard has not been released.
