An Oscar-winning actor is reportedly being considered to take on the role of Jessica Fletcher in an upcoming film reboot of the beloved TV series Murder, She Wrote.
The original series, which ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, starred the late Angela Lansbury as author-turned-detective Jessica. The show ran for over 200 episodes and Angela later reprised the role in four films that aired on TV.
Jamie Lee Curtis, 66, is now said to be the favourite to take over the role, as reported by the Daily Record. Deadline has named her as "the top choice," whilst Variety reported earlier this week that she's in "early talks" for the film.
The development of the film comes as whodunit projects are in thought to be in high demand following the recent success of the Knives Out series and Kenneth Branagh's Hercule Poirot mysteries. Jamie first gained fame as a 'scream queen' in the 1980s with films like Halloween (1978), but has enjoyed continued success in recent years.

She's set to star in Amazon's Kay Scarpetta opposite Nicole Kidman and will reunite with Lindsay Lohan for next year's highly anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday, titled Freakier Friday.
Angela - who passed away, aged 96, in 2022 - starred in the original Murder, She Wrote series for more than a decade. Her character Jessica was a retired teacher turned successful mystery writer with an talent for solving real-life murders. The show was primarily set in the fictional seaside town of Cabot Cove in Maine but the sleuth often found herself travelling to other locations, where new cases would inevitably unfold around her.
News of Murder, She Wrote being turned into a film was announced last year by film producers and writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who were promoting their film Dumb Money (2023) at the time. Lauren told Collider whilst at the Toronto International Film Festival in September last year: "We have written a theatrical feature film version of Murder, She Wrote for Universal, and we're really excited." Whilst Rebecca teased to the outlet that it's Jessica's "time to return".
