Actor James Woods was certain that his home had burned in the Pacific Palisades fire. He was so certain that he broke down in tears on CNN speaking about it.
That’s in part because, Woods revealed on Instagram, all of the smoke detectors were going off inside his hillside home remotely, and that came after he videotaped the fire lapping up the hillside toward his residence.
However, when the smoke cleared, Woods discovered that, although his neighbors’ homes tragically burned to the ground, his was still standing.
A miracle has happened. We managed to get to our property and our home, that we were told is gone forever, is still standing. In this hellish landscape “standing” is relative, but smoke and other damage is not like the utter destruction around us. The view from our deck area: pic.twitter.com/JZU2kTJC52

“This is everything below us. Oh my God. That’s our neighbor’s house,” Woods says in the video.
James Woods Says His Neighborhood Looks ‘Like the Dark Side of the Moon,’ But He Thanked People for the ‘Beautiful Messages’
Woods has been sharing updates for days on X and Instagram. “So many beautiful messages from all of you. I’m so happy and grateful, but honestly the entire area looks like the dark side of the moon. It’s so fundamentally gut-wrenching and upsetting, it’s almost hard to celebrate the joyous news that our home survived,” he wrote.
Woods had gone on CNN and said, “One day you’re swimming in the pool, the next day it’s all gone.” Breaking into tears, in that interview he described how his wife’s 8-year-old niece had offered him the contents of her piggyback so they could rebuild.
Another video he shared showed that, although his house still stands, his neighborhood was destroyed. “One side untouched, the other utter destruction. While we rejoice to find our house intact, in the midst of a hellscape like this, you can only think of your neighbors. I was so certain our house was gone a day ago, but the fickle finger of fate decided otherwise,” he wrote.
James Woods Thanked the Firefighters Who Fought the Blaze
Woods thanked the first responders and firefighters who fought the blaze in another post on X.
“The firefighters risking their lives to saves our homes deserve the highest praise and gratitude,” he wrote.
As the fire crept toward his house, Woods had posted the video showing the flames near his home and wrote, “I took this last night from our beautiful little home in the Palisades. Now all the fire alarms are going off at once remotely. It tests your soul, losing everything at once, I must say.”
