Dick York as Darrin Stephens in Bewitched
Perhaps one of the most well-known recastings took place on the set of the '60s sitcom Bewitched.
Dick York portrayed Darrin Stephens in a leading role, however, he was later replaced by Dick Sargent.
York was experiencing health concerns following a previous back injury on the set of They Came to Cordura, which forced him to abandon his role in the series.

Jane Hubert as Vivian Banks in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Jane Hubert starred in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as Vivian Banks, though she didn't get to keep her position in the television series.
The actress alleges that conflicts with her co-star, Will Smith, led to her exit from the show in season four, where she was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid.
"I can say straight up that Janet Hubert wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air show because I know she is going to dog me in the press," Smith said in a radio interview at the time.
"She has basically gone from a quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing.
"She's mad now, but she's been mad all along," he said.
Hubert responded: "He [Smith] probably is responsible for my firing.
"He has a lot of clout. It's too bad that it's a Black-on-Black attack. I have tried not to name names.
"I have more class than that. I wish Will would tell the truth. If you're going to talk, tell the truth.
She concluded: "He has gotten me fired from the show, and now he's trying to get my career snatched away from me."

Ryan Gosling as Jack Salmon in The Lovely Bones
In The Lovely Bones, Ryan Gosling was initially cast as Jack Salmon, the grieving father.
In a self-directed creative decision, the actor decided that he needed to gain weight to portray the character accurately, so he drank melted Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
The director was unimpressed with Gosling's appearance after he gained 60 pounds (27kg) for the movie.
"We had a different idea of how the character should look," Gosling told The Hollywood Reporter. "I really believed he should be 210 pounds(95kg)."
"We didn't talk very much during the preproduction process, which was the problem," Gosling said.
"It was a huge movie, and there's so many things to deal with, and he couldn't deal with the actors individually. I just showed up on set, and I had gotten it wrong.
"Then I was fat and unemployed."
The role instead went to Mark Wahlberg.

Claudia Wells as Jennifer in Back to the Future
In Back to the Future, Claudia Wells starred as Jennifer, the lead character Marty Mcfly's girlfriend.
Starring closely alongside Michael J. Fox in the first film, Wells didn't return for the sequel.
Unfortunately, Wells' mother, who was also her manager, was battling breast cancer at the time.
The actress chose to spend time with her family instead of filming.
Instead, Elizabeth Shue took on the role and had much more screen time than that of Wells.

Rachelle LeFevre as Victoria in Twilight
Rachelle Lefevre played the role of Victoria in the Twilight franchise until she was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in Eclipse.
At the time, it was rumoured to be a result of scheduling conflicts.
However, Lefevre says there were only 10 days when she was unavailable and felt the dismissal was unfair.
"I was stunned by Summit's decision to recast the role of Victoria," LeFevre said in a statement to Access Hollywood.
"I was fully committed to the Twilight saga and to the portrayal of Victoria," she added.
"I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria."

Larry Hagman as Anthony Nelson in I Dream of Jeannie
The '60s rom-com I Dream of Jeannie featured Larry Hagman in the leading role of Anthony Nelson.
While everything appeared magical, tensions behind the scenes reportedly stemmed from Hagman's battle with substance abuse.
Barbara Eden, who played Jeannie, opened up about the disagreements in her memoir Jeannie Out of the Bottle.
"I want to make it crystal clear that I think Larry Hagman is a terrific actor and I'd work with him again any day," Eden wrote.
"Not just because of his talent but because he is a warm and kind human being.
"Larry himself has made no secret about the fact that he was taking drugs and drinking too much through many of the I Dream of Jeannie years," Eden shared.
"And that he has regrets about how that impacted him. And I, of all people, know that I can't afford to be judgmental about the lure of drugs and the dreadful repercussions of taking them."
Hagman did not reprise his role for I Dream of Jeannie... Fifteen Years Later and was replaced by Wayne Rogers.

Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in Batman
As a result of scheduling conflicts, Katie Holmes left the Batman franchise in the role of Rachel Dawes.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was then given the role in The Dark Night.
In an interview with Digital Spy prior to the release of the film, Gyllenhaal said: "I wanted to be sure, first of all, that I had her blessing... And I was assured that I did.
"I felt like it wouldn't have done anyone any good if I tried to imitate her.
"Really, what I decided was that it had to be a whole new woman."

Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle in Riverdale
Ross Butler landed one of his first significant roles as Reggie Mantle in the television series Riverdale.
At the time, he was also working on 13 Reasons Why, which took precedence over Riverdale.
The actor says his departure and recasting were a result of a scheduling conflict.
"Before season 2 was confirmed for [13 Reasons Why], I had to make the decision of whether I wanted to focus on one character or split two characters and have a smaller role on both shows," Butler told Vulture.
"Reggie's a great character, but it's a different tone. I connected with Zach on a much more real level where I didn't have to create so much of a character for him. Reggie's more outspoken, like that jock archetype."
Charles Melton then took the role of Reggie Mantle.
"We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn't use him nearly as much as we would have liked," the show's creator Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine.
