AEW Superstar Darby Allin Taking Leave of Absence to Climb Mt Everest: Report

4 hours ago 3

Darby Allin is easily the biggest daredevil on the AEW roster, executing spots and maneuvers that would make most people shake in their boots.

Now, it looks like he is taking his risk-taking lifestyle to a whole new level.

According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Allin will be taking a months-long hiatus from AEW in order to climb Mt. Everest.

"Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp has confirmed that Darby Allin has been off the road of late and hasn't been at AEW TV," Fightful Select said. "We're told that Allin has started his training for Mt. Everest, and isn't expected back for months."

Allin has been planning on climbing Mt. Everest since the beginning of 2024, but it has been put off multiple times due to injury.

This was first delayed when Allin broke his foot in three places during a match with Jay White in March.

The trip was further delayed a couple of months later when Allin was hit by a bus in New York City.

"Everybody's saying, like, maybe that's a sign that you shouldn't do it," Allin said, per The Dallas Morning News. "And I said hell no that's a sign I should do it next year."

Pro wrestling icon Sting later tried to convince Allin not to make the climb, but to no avail.

"He's tried but he knows that I really want to do it," Allin said, per Denise Salcedo. "He's like, 'Alright man, if you're on a vision quest and you want to do something, go do it.'"

In the end, Allin's goal is to make it to the top of Mt. Everest and plant an AEW flag at the top.

"I said, 'Hey, I've got this idea, if there's a way to get more eyes on the company,' like I had been doing with the Travis Pastrana and Tony Hawk stuff, 'There's more eyes to get on the company through extreme stunts,'" Allin said, per Fightful.

"I'll be the guinea pig for that. What about me climbing Mount Everest? No wrestler's ever done that before. What if I just plant a big AEW flag on top of Mount Everest?' I'm thinking of what we could get in return, you know?"

"I have a team that reached out to me from Discovery. We would document the whole thing. So it's a way I want to give back to the company, so it's not like homie going into the mountains and disappearing. There is a method to the madness that I want to give back."

Allin is considered one of the four pillars of AEW alongside AEW, Sammy Guevara, and Jack Perry. He has won the AEW TNT Championship twice and the AEW World Tag Team Championship with Sting.
