A cook has shared a healthy alternative to chips, and it's one that even children will enjoy.

Mum-of-two Alina, who posts under the handle @healthyfoodfinds, regularly shares kid-friendly healthy meals and snacks, and recently posted a recipe for air fryer carrots.

Sharing a video of her carrot recipe, she wrote: "Air Fryer Carrot Fries // I love this idea for fries because I always have carrots in my fridge that need to be put to use.

"Sweet and savory, these are similar to sweet potato fries but hold their own. Also works with baby carrots. Change up the seasonings to your liking and let me know what combos come out delicious! [carrot emoji]."

In the video she added that while she's unsure if french fries count as a vegetable, she is certain that carrots are, and make a healthier option.

Air fryer carrot chips

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 large carrots, peeled & cut into sticks
  • One tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • One tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Dried parsley for garnish (optional)

Method

Mix the carrots, olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, and salt together in a bowl, stirring until they are combined.

Then, place the carrots in the air fryer in a single layer and cook at 380F for 13 minutes, tossing them halfway through. Serve the carrot chips alongside your choice of dipping sauce.

Alina's followers were quick to comment, with one writing: "It looks delicious, I love carrots I will definitely try these." While another penned: "My boyfriend suggested doing this. At first I thought ur was not a good idea but then I loved it. Try it."

Other commenters began debating if potatoes do indeed count as vegetable or not - and if the carrot chips are any healthier. One wrote: "French fries are made out of potatoes. Potatoes are vegetables. Just like carrot fries are made out of carrots. Carrots are vegetables. Zucchini fries are made out of Zucchini. Zucchini is a vegetable (or botanically a fruit)."

While another argued: "If potatoes are a vegetable why do we dutch people call it “aardappels met groente” (potatoes with vegetables) instead of just 'vegetables'? Check mate."
