Hallmark star Alison Sweeney took to social media to honor and mourn a former co-star in the wake of his death. Wayne Northrop, who co-starred with Sweeney on “Days of Our Lives,” died on November 29, reported Deadline.

On December 1, Sweeney paid tribute to Northrop in an Instagram post. The “Hannah Swensen Mystery” star revealed that her first scenes on “Days of Our Lives” playing Sami Brady were with Northrop.

Ali Sweeney Has Fond Memories of Wayne Northrop

Sweeney recalled filming her first scenes with Northrop. “I remember him helping me understand how to pretend to break into the Brady house with a bobby-pin.”

“He was a wonderful, kind man, a talented, generous actor and a beloved member of the Days family,” she wrote.

She added, “I learned so much from working with Wayne and will treasure the memories with him.”

Fans took to the comment section of Sweeney’s post to share their memories and condolences.

One fan wrote, “I started watching ‘Days’ during the teenage Sami years, towards the end of Wayne’s second run as Roman. Sending you so much love, Ali!”

“Such a beautiful tribute. Sending lots of love to all of the Northrup (sic) family, friends, loved ones & colleagues. Surrounding everyone with peace and comfort,” shared another fan.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Fans Have Had Several Tough Losses in 2024

Deadline shared a statement from Northrop’s wife, “General Hospital” star Lynn Herring, after his death.

“Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family,” Herring’s statement indicated, per Deadline.

Herring also shared, “Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”

“Days of Our Lives” star Deidre Hall, who starred in Hallmark’s “My Christmas Dream” believes fans are finding comfort in the show during a year of difficult losses. In addition to Northrop’s death, colleagues Drake Hogestyn and Bill Hayes also died in 2024.

“I think [fans] come to us in times of need, when they need comfort, they need reassurance, they need a sense of family that maybe is not in their house at the time and ‘Days of Our Lives’ is very good about providing exactly that for everybody,” Hall shared with Us Weekly.

Fellow “Days of Our Lives” cast member Susan Seaforth Hayes, who starred in a “Hallmark Hall of Fame” project at the age of 8, also opened up about the losses to Us Weekly.

“My husband, Bill Hayes, Drake Hogestyn, and now Wayne Northrop. Bang, bang, bang, all coming down at once,” she noted. She added that the show “certainly gives me comfort to come in and work with Deidre and see that we are going forward and making the best of every hard situation.”
