On Thursday (Dec. 12), Netflix announced Mariah Carey will kickoff its NFL Christmas Day festivities with a tapped performance of her hit holiday single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
“This Christmas, we all get our wish,” Carey expressed in the promo teaser. “The NFL is live on Netflix, and I’ll be there too.”
The year marks the 30th anniversary of her historic album, Merry Christmas, and the aforementioned breakout single.
It was previously announced that Beyoncé is headlining the halftime show during the Ravens/Texans game. That performance will be live.
TMZ Sports reported that the NFL extended her set time from the standard 12 minutes to 20 minutes, but Bey’s team refuted the claim. Netflix, though, confirmed that Bey’s halftime show will be “the first live performance of songs from her genre-bending and record-breaking COWBOY CARTER album.” She will also be bringing out special guests who were part of the album.
In the initial teaser, Bey used the lyrics from “AMERIICAN REQUIEM” to make her point. “It’s a lotta chatter in here/ But let me make myself clear/ Can you hear me?” she stated.
The streamer will be airing the NFL’s two marquee Christmas games with the Super Bow LVIII champions Kansas City Chiefs going against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET and the Baltimore Ravens facing off against the Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET. The games will also broadcast on CBS affiliate channels in Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Houston as well as on U.S. mobile devices via NFL+.
