In a stunning break from tradition, Richard Gere, then 44, and Cindy Crawford, then 27, were named Sexiest Couple Alive in 1993.

"Richard loves me without my makeup and in my ponytail," Crawford told the publication of her then-husband at the time.

"So, hey, if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me."

It was the first and remains the only time a woman has ever taken out the title – or part of it at least.
