An Ex “Love Island” Contestant Revealed That The Producers Keep Everyone Safe By Having “Consent Buttons” By All The Beds, And More Dating Shows Need To Take Note

An ex-Love Island contestant has revealed how the show keeps contestants safe when it comes to intimacy.

In case you’ve never seen it, Love Island is a dating series in which a bunch of singles jet out to a luxury villa, where they partake in various challenges and go on multiple dates in a bid to find their perfect match.

The series started in the UK and then expanded to the US, Australia, and many other countries.

Ex-contestant Georgia Murray, who starred in Season 5 of Love Island Australia, took to TikTok last week to reveal that each contestant on the show has a “consent button” by their bed.

“OK guys, I’m gonna tell you something about Love Island that you probably don’t know... You see these little buttons on the side of the bed? Those are called consent buttons, and there is one on each side,” she explained.

“Basically, you press them before you go to bed to consent to anything that happens during the night,” she shared.

“As viewers, we can see who’s pressed it because we can look at the little love heart at the top of their bed. If it’s glowing, then they’ve consented,” she revealed.

It’s worth noting that these “consent buttons” seemingly only appear on Love Island Australia.

Georgia then showed TikTok users what the glowing hearts actually look like when switched on. “This couple, only one person has pressed the button, which is why only one half of the love heart is glowing,” she explained as she filmed current Love Island contestants Steph and Mimi.

“Both of these couples’ love hearts are glowing, so they’ve both consented,” she added as she filmed another two beds.

Several Love Island fans (myself included) were genuinely surprised at Georgia’s revelation, noting that they had never noticed the glowing hearts or buttons before.

“Why have we only found out this now,” one person commented. “I did not know this !!!” someone else wrote.

“literally never noticed this,” another user echoed, while one more person added, “I had no idea!!!”

The more you know! You can stream Love Island Australia on Hulu in the US.
