Singer Anastacia is rarely seen without her signature sunglasses, to the point where it has become a cornerstone of her fashion.
But it turns out the fashion statement has more of a practical purpose than first realised.
This morning on Nova 100's Jase & Lauren, the singer revealed her trademark look was born out of necessity.

"They've always been prescription. I've had glasses on since I was six," the 56-year-old revealed.
"So I've been wearing glasses in different shapes and decided to put a tint in them in my early 20s, just because guys would say, 'You're a pretty sexy librarian'. And I was like, 'I can't see, get away!'"
Speaking on how it became an iconic look, she shared, "They became a very strange thing that I didn't mean to happen, but it became, like, recognisable."

The I'm Outta Love singer is in Melbourne to kick off the festivities on Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday November 2.
Her set will be followed by a performance from Dutch DJ Sam Feldt.

She will be performing alongside fellow noughties superstars Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ronan Keating who will take the stage later in the week on November 7.
During the height of her fame in the 00's, Anastacia was secretly battling a host of health issues.
She was first diagnosed with Crohn's disease – an inflammatory bowel disease – when she was 13.

In 2002, when she was 34, the songstress was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She had gone to the doctor to have a breast reduction due to back strain, and it was during a routine mammogram for that surgery that the cancer was discovered.
Immediately, Anastacia underwent radiotherapy and surgery, which successfully removed the cancer.
