Brad Pitt is turning the screw on Angelina Jolie as the pair’s court case moves ahead to full trial. Sources exclusively tell In Touch that the Maria star is in major panic mode over the increasingly likely scenario that she’ll be on the hook to her ex for mega millions.
“Brad’s team has painted him as a ‘man of principle’ who won’t back down, but to her, it feels so ruthless,” the insider says. “She’s overwhelmed and wondering what he really wants from her at this point. It’s like he’s using his money and influence to bulldoze her, especially since she was open to settling, and he clearly just wants to steamroller.”
The source adds that “the way Brad is going about this feels brutal,” and it seems as though the Mr. and Mrs. Smith actor, 60, and his team “are taking pleasure in using every opportunity” to paint Angie, 49, in a negative light.
“She feels like they’re trying to win this in the court of public opinion just as much as in court,” the insider continues. “If she loses, it’s going to be devastating financially and emotionally. She just wants this nightmare to end, but with Brad hell-bent on making her suffer at every chance, it’s hard for her to see a clear way out. It’s heartbreaking and taking a huge toll on her.”
Brad and Angelina, who have been entangled in divorce proceedings since 2016, are currently in a legal battle over their winery, Château Miraval, which they purchased in 2008. The Bullet Train star initially sued his ex-wife in February 2022, claiming that she illegally sold her shares of the winery after they had previously agreed only to do so with each other’s consent.
Brad accused Angelina of “vindictively” selling her share because he was not given the opportunity to match or outbid her offer, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly at the time.
“Pitt and Jolie purchased the château as a home to share with their children and the vineyard as a family business,” the court documents read. “They agreed they would never sell their respective interests in Miraval without the other’s consent. The couple spent the holidays at Miraval with their children and were married there in 2014.”
In July, Angie claimed that Brad tried to force her to sign an $8.5 million NDA in an attempt to cover up “years of abuse,” according to court documents obtained by In Touch. She stated that she was “not acting with malice” when she sold her shares of the winery and claimed that Brad “refused to buy her interest unless he received his newly expanded NDA,” which was allegedly designed to “force her silence about his abuse and cover-up.”
On November 8, judge Lia Martin of Los Angeles County Superior Court dismissed three demurrers, or motions to dismiss, that were filed by Angelina’s team in the case. Weeks later, Brad accused Angelina of withholding “hundreds of emails,” In Touch exclusively reported on November 27.
“In a last-ditch attempt to suppress the truth about her wrongful sale to the Stoli Parties, [Angelina] has withheld hundreds of emails she exchanged with her inner circle in the period leading up to the sale on claims of attorney-client privilege,” he claimed in court documents obtained by In Touch. “But 126 of those emails are entirely between non-lawyers. These 126 communications should be ordered produced.”
