Anne Hathaway has opened up about what it was like to work in Hollywood in the early 2000s, as well as revealing some of the controversial practices she was subjected to.
It’s unbelievable to think that 42-year-old Hathway made her feature film debut in The Princess Diaries 23 years ago.
The 2001 flick paved the way for the actress to star and lend her voice to 16 more flicks during the early 2000s, including Ella Enchanted, Brokeback Mountain and Bride Wars.
But as Hathway rose from strength to strength on the silver screen, behind the scenes reportedly wasn’t all rainbows.
According to the Mothers’ Instinct favorite, she was subjected to ‘gross’ chemistry tests with her co-stars to see if they would gel well before filming scenes together.
Having appeared in projects beside Chris Pine, Chris Pratt and Steve Carell, it’s presumed she and they headed into these tests together.
“Back in the 2000s - and this did happen to me - it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry, which is actually the worst way to do it," the 41-year-old recently told V Magazine.

"I was told, ‘We have 10 guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?' and I thought, 'Is there something wrong with me?' because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross."
Hathaway added that she was 'terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled 'difficult' so pretended to be excited by the masses on snogging she had to do.
"It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me," the Devil Wears Prada alumna added. "It was just a very different time and now we know better."
As well as being this month's V Magazine cover star, she recently donned the front of Vanity Fair magazine.
For her interview with the outlet, Hathaway rewatched some of her old films and became overcome with emotion while watching The Princess Diaries.

"This was the film that changed my life," Hathaway said of the 2001 Disney favorite. "It's so weird to watch it. I haven't seen this movie in nearly 20 years."
She went on to say she was 'speechless' watching it back and that she was so 'glad [she] got to be that girl right there'.
Hathway currently has seven entertainment projects in the works, according to IMDB.
These include The Princess Diaries 3 and the sequel to the Devil Wears Prada, as well as an unitled project by Christopher Nolan and James Gray's Paper Tiger.
