Anthony Edwards is bringing in the holidays with Sprite and a new alter ego.
The soda company debuted its new holiday ad on Tuesday (Nov. 12), which features Ant-Man as “Anta Claus.” Monaleo handles the narration of the “Spritemas” special, detailing how Santa Claus is “out with a high ankle sprain” and that Ant must take over for ‘ol Saint Nick come game time.
Ant brings his authentic Atlanta roots to the task at hand, swapping out Santa’s sleigh, reindeer, and brown-leathered boots for a clean Caddy powered by Wolves—a nod to his current basketball team—and a fire pair of AE 1’s, of course.
Edwards delivers on his promise to take over for Santa just in time for “sippin’ season” and gifts various holiday party cases of Sprite’s fan-favorite Winter Spiced Cranberry soda. Edwards spoke to VIBE about the new ad and expressed his excitement about bringing his own flavor to Sprite’s world of holiday commercials, starring in his first one.
“It’s great to get to team up with Sprite again,” he enthusiastically told VIBE. “This is my first holiday campaign with them and it’s dope that it comes with their Winter Spiced Cranberry drop. I’ve always loved the flavor, and I definitely get the hype around it. I’ll be sippin’ on it all season long!”
The Minnesota Timberwolves star then spoke about his work on the “Obey Your Thirst” campaign and how this Christmas-themed project differed in comparison.
“Everything we did for ‘Obey Your Thirst’ was awesome, and this holiday shoot was a lot of fun. Sprite’s putting a twist on holiday classics for this one, and I get to step in for Santa! We had funny outfits, sports cars, even a Timberwolves-inspired ‘wolfdeer’—it’s pretty wild and I think people are going to love it.“
