Apple could offer 90Hz refresh rate display technology on iMac, iPad Air, and Studio: Report

2 weeks ago 4

Apple is allegedly developing a 90Hz refresh rate display technology for the iMac, iPad Air, and Studio Display. Future iPad Air versions may have this technology; the present iPad Air models feature LCD panels with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The Studio Display and 24-inch iMac might also be equipped with upgraded display technology. There are also rumours that Apple is planning to add 120Hz screens to the iPhone 17 series. This move is consistent with the trend of Android OEMs providing screens with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz on lower-priced devices.

A new speculation claims that Apple is developing a 90Hz panel that might be used in the Studio panel, 24-inch iMac, and iPad Air. An unnamed individual reportedly brought up the notion with Myke Hurley and Jason Snell of the Upgrade podcast, according to 9to5Mac.
This rumour states that the 24-inch iMac and Studio Display will eventually have the 90Hz display after first being spotted on the M3 iPad Air.

The current refresh rates for the iPad Air, 24-inch iMac, and Studio Display are all 60 Hz.

Besides this, there are rumours that Apple is planning to add 120Hz screens to the iPhone 17 series.

According to a report from South Korea’s ETNews, Apple plans to equip the whole iPhone 17 series with LTPO displays, a low-power backplane technology that allows for variable refresh rate with reduced battery usage. As a result, base models will offer ProMotion displays with a changeable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

Even the most current iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models only feature 60Hz displays; Apple usually only makes high refresh rate screens for the Pro models.

All iPhone 17 models will come with LTPO panels from Samsung and LG, a high-end Pro series technology that enhances screen responsiveness and smoothness while consuming less battery, according to ETNews.
