In a promotional push to boost interest for the upcoming second season, Apple has added all of Severance season one to the Roku Channel, for users to watch for free. The Roku Channel boasts more than 90 million users, making it one of the largest destinations of free streaming video content.
This marks the first time TV+ content has been made available on a free third-party streaming platform. The move shows just how committed Apple is to trying to expand engagement and viewership of its original content.
The season one episodes will be available to stream for free on Roku, through January 19. Users can also check out a season two preview, as well as some behind the scenes content. Roku users will also be offered a three-month trial of Apple TV+, so they can start watching the second season as well.
Last weekend, we saw a related free streaming promotion hosted on the Apple TV app itself. All TV+ content was free to stream from January 3-5, giving yet another opportunity for people to try out some TV+ originals without being committed to a paid subscription.
Severance season two has received rave reviews from critics, and Apple will be hoping it can carry that momentum through to a splashy launch when the first episode premieres on January 17.
