Apple notifies Apple Pay and Wallet users of changes to terms of use

Apple has recently started emailing its users about terms and conditions changes now in effect for Apple Pay and Wallet. Curiously though, the changes actually went into effect nearly three months ago in September. Here’s what you should know.

Apple Pay term notices arrive months after actual revisions

Here is an excerpt from the email going out to users about the revised Apple Pay & Wallet terms:

We’ve made a few updates to the Apple Pay & Wallet Terms & Conditions. Here’s a summary of the key changes:

• We have simplified our Terms and Conditions for Apple Pay and Wallet so that your review and agreement of these Terms and Conditions is effective across all of your Apple devices.
• For our US customers, Apple Pay is a service provided by Apple Payments Services LLC, a subsidiary of Apple Inc.
• Our Terms and Conditions now include standard assignment provisions.

The full updated terms and conditions are available here for review, and a privacy notice is included in the email as an attachment.

The privacy notice is dated September 2024, and if you visit Apple’s website to review the revised terms, you’ll notice they were last updated September 16, 2024.

Nothing in the term changes seems especially significant or worth noting, but it is odd that the revised terms went into effect nearly three months ago and Apple’s just now sending emails about it.
