- As per recent rumors, Apple is preparing to launch AirTag 2 next year.
- AirTag 2 will bring some privacy improvements with a new chipset and better range.
Improved Privacy
AirTag is great for finding missing or lost items. AirTags are paired to the user’s iOS device so that they can track them using their iPhone. You can track from long distances. However, bad actors found a way to misuse the original AirTag with multiple reports of people being stalked leading to serious privacy and security concerns.
Many people shared instances online where they found someone else’s AirTag in their bags, jackets, and other belongings over the last few years. Apple has taken note by working on this with AirTag 2 focusing more on privacy. A new design change will make it quite hard for stalkers to remove the speaker from the AirTag now. Apple is planning to make the new model (codenamed B589) more tamper-proof making it tough to change or damage the new AirTag 2.
Better Range
AirTag 2 will have better range thanks to a new second-generation Ultra Wideband chip which could allow the precision finding feature to work from greater distances.
New Chip
The second generation AirTag will be coming with the U2 Chip providing better location accuracy and more efficient energy consumption. This means your AirTag will last longer and offer better accuracy. This should make it easier to find lost items.
Also, there’s a possibility that AirTag 2 will integrate with Apple’s Vision Pro headset in some way but details are lacking at this point.
