Ariana Grande attended the 2025 Golden Globes after snagging a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wicked, but was met with an interview question on the red carpet before the event that has her fans fuming.
The 31-year-old actress was making her way down the carpet on Sunday, January 5, answering questions when she was asked, "[Who was the] first person you called when you found out you were nominated?" Grande replied and said, "Oh my goodness," before answering, "My mom." The interviewer then asked her if her grandmother was still alive, to which she responded, "Yes, my Nonna, she's 99. Nonna was the second (one to know)."
Despite answering without missing a beat, some of Grande's fans were shocked by the interviewer's bold question, with several sharing their thoughts on the matter in the comment section of a video of the interview on X (formerly known as Twitter).
"Why would she even ask that if she didn't know...u don't just ask someone that so casually 😭🙄," wrote one fan, while a second added, "I understand she asked that but still, asking about it out of nowhere is just-😭😭😭." A third fan asked, "1. Why would she ask that 2. Why would she ask it THAT WAY."
A fourth fan disagreed and asked, "Am I the only one who thinks the question isn't THAT inappropriate? 😭"
The "Thank U, Next" singer is no stranger to sharing heartfelt family moments on her socials, and most recently posted about her grandmother in a series of Instagram stories where the two went to watch Wicked in theaters. In the posts that were uploaded on November 24, Grande wrote, "Flew to Boca for a day to watch with Nonna 🖤 at the movie theater I grew up going to every weekend, Cinemark 20 in Boca."
Fans can now rent or buy Wicked on Amazon Prime and Apple TV+.
