Ubisoft has delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows a second time. Following its initial push from November 2024 to February 2025, the open-world RPG will now be released on March 20, 2025.
"While we've already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience," reads a post on the franchise's official social media page.
Ubisoft states that the game is being delayed to polish the game, but the accompanying press release points to various other factors, including a potential sale of the company.
"Ubisoft announced today that it has appointed leading advisors to review and pursue various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders," reads the press release.
"This process will be overseen by the independent members of the Board of Directors. Ubisoft will inform the market in accordance with applicable regulations if and once a transaction materializes."
Ubisoft will also engage in "significant" cost-reduction measures that may exceed €200 million by the end of the upcoming fiscal year i.e. FY25-26. The company also confirmed that it closed three production studios following the discontinuation of XDefiant.
"We made good progress on the strategic and execution reviews initiated a few months ago and are confident that this will position Ubisoft for a stronger future," said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft.
"We have taken decisive steps to reshape the Group in order to deliver best-in-class player experiences, enhance operational efficiency and maximize value creation. We also recently appointed leading advisors and are actively exploring various strategic and capitalistic options to unlock the full value potential of our assets. We are convinced that there are several potential paths to generate value from Ubisoft's assets and franchises."
Ubisoft is also holding a "strategic update" conference call to address concerns from its investors later today.
Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released on March 20, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
