Aubrey Plaza isn’t afraid to make a splash.
Always one to keep the fashion industry on its toes, the “White Lotus” star, 40, rocked a sheer Gucci dress at Dead Funny: An All-Star Tribute to Joan Rivers, an event benefitting God’s Love We Deliver, on Thursday night.
Marking the ten-year anniversary of the late “Fashion Police” star’s death, the event featured comedic salutes to Rivers and her decades-long career.
Plaza’s dress featured lacy straps, velvet cups and crystal embellishments throughout the bodice and sheer skirt. She finished the look with high-waisted hot pants, pumps and Boucheron jewelry and wore her hair in a curled shoulder-length bob.
About midway through the show, Plaza took the stage for a typically deadpan sendoff of some of the “Fashion Police” star’s most politically incorrect jokes, suggesting that they should be laid to rest along with the iconic comedian.
Rivers would surely have had something to say about Plaza’s look for the night — and those of the other comics who honored her at the event.
Nikki Glaser went for a Rebecca Vallance LBD accented with gold chains, Michelle Buteau opted for a bold blue bubble dress and Chelsea Handler looked elegant in an off-the-shoulder maroon midi. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan made a marvelous impression in a floral-skirted Raisa Vanessa mini and Tiffany Haddish brought the house down in a slinky green Tove maxi.
Plaza has a track record of donning unexpected, made-you-look numbers on the red carpet.
In January, for the Emmy Awards 2024, the A-lister dropped jaws in a butter yellow Loewe number, which featured a gigantic pin over an envelope-like bodice.
The avant-garde look quickly sparked memes as it was compared to Post-It notes, a slice of cheese and more.
The “Agatha All Along” star’s 2023 SAG Awards dress also caused chatter, thanks to the sequined Michael Kors gown’s ab-baring cutout.
She even had a frazzled viral moment on stage, though later shook off the moment in playful behind-the-scenes snaps.
And, Plaza’s stylist took to Instagram to defend the barely-there dress, reassuring fans that the revealing look was certainly intentional.
We give the team an A+.
