It's a tale as old as time.

Every now and then an artist manages to pick an opening act that resonates so well with the audience, the tour skyrockets them to fame.

Getting an invite to open for a legendary act is something most artists can only dream of, and Aussie band Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers tell 9honey Celebrity they're not taking that opportunity for granted.

The rock band are currently one of the opening acts for Pearl Jam's Aussie tour, telling 9honey Celebrity on the red carpet at the 2024 ARIA Awards that taking to the stage ahead of the popular American rock band is a "dream come true."

"It was incredible," said drummer Neve van Boxsel of the the moment they got the call inviting them on tour.

She explained that a while back they played at Ohana Festival in California, which is Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder's event.

"I think he sussed us from that," she added.

And while they've had plenty of memorable moments touring alongside Vedder and his band, they say there is one in particular they'll never forget.

"We were trying to play with them on the Gold Coast, but there was a storm and our set got cut," explained guitarist Scarlett McKahey.

"Then in our show in Melbourne the other day, Eddie came on stage before we played and he introduced us and said some really nice things and that was really cute. He's so sweet and we love him."

Earlier this week, a clip did the rounds on social media of Vedder taking to the stage two hours ahead of his own performance to praise Teen Jesus for how "gracious" they were about having their set cancelled.

"I'm so happy that you're here, they're here, and they finally get the chance to play on this sacred stage," he announced to the crowd. "You get the benefit of seeing Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers."

And while it's a moment they'll cherish forever, the Aussie band say that the warm welcome came as a shock to them.

"It's so nice because I feel like usually headliners aren't even there when we play sometimes," van Boxsel laughed. "So for him to introduce us was amazing."

Teen Jesus are nominated for the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Award at this year's ARIA Awards, and they're the first non-male group to be nominated for the award in almost two decades.

The last were The Veronicas back in 2006.

And it seems it's a night of firsts for the four Aussie artists, with McKahey telling 9honey Celebrity that their performance on the ARIAs stage will be their first ever performance on TV.

"I'm really excited," lead singer Anna Ryan added.

"I think it'll be great, it's such an awesome opportunity."
