The 48-year-old journalist, who hails from regional Australia, said she could feel the “silent majority” in the regions and believed it would reflect in how the majority of US citizens would vote.

Armytage was speaking with radio host Ben Fordham on 2GB when he recalled her placing the bet nine years ago.

“I did, I did,” Armytage confirmed. “I won a lot of money that day.”

She said she had “a suspicion” about the election outcome.

“My parents were country people and I could hear what was going on out there with the silent majority and quiet people who sort of go underground at times like this,” she said.

“And I thought, ‘There’s going to be a change here, there’s going to be a bit of a revolt.’

“This is what you have in a society when you’re leaning towards the woke, that a lot of people go quiet, and I could just see it coming.”

Armytage said she made the bet about 12 months before the 2016 presidential election, which Trump ultimately won with 304 votes compared with 227 votes for former first lady and secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

“So, I think at the point where it was about 12 months before the American election that time around, I was walking past a TAB and they had sort of 100 to 1 on Donald Trump to win,” Armytage said.

She reminded listeners of the attitudes in late 2015 towards Trump winning the election, when people believed “there’s no way in the world” it’s going to happen — hence the generous odds.

“So I put $100 on him, and bear in mind I was doing breakfast TV back then so I was earning good money to share my opinions and take the punches,” she said.

“So I put $100 on him at 100 to 1.”

“Wow!” Fordham said.

“That doesn’t mean I endorse him or I condone him,” Armytage emphasised.

“But I did win money on him last time and it’ll be very interesting to see what happens next week”.

Armytage did not comment on the upcoming presidential election which pits Trump head-to-head with Vice President Kamala Harris.
