The Avocado Green and the Nolah Natural are both organic hybrid mattresses made from natural latex, recycled coils, and organic cotton and wool. They're both designed to provide natural, non-toxic sleep, but how do you know whether the Avocado vs Nolah mattress is the right organic mattress for you?
The Avocado Green Mattress received an honorable mention in this year's best mattress guide thanks to its certified organic materials and firm support. But we've recently tested the Nolah Natural, so it's time to see if this latex bed can dethrone the Avocado Green.
In this comparison guide, we'll explore the key differences between the Avocado Green vs the Nolah Natural Mattress, comparing price, design and materials, and support and comfort. And if you decide that either the Avocado Green or the Nolah Natural are right for you, you'll find both discounted in this month's mattress sales.
Avocado Green vs Nolah Natural Mattress: Price & trial
- A queen Avocado Green is usually around $1,699 to $1,849
- With a regular 35% discount, a queen Nolah Natural is usually $1,364
- Avocado has a longer trial, but Nolah has a longer warranty
The best organic mattresses use premium sustainable materials, so they fall in the upper-mid range to premium mattress price bracket. The Avocado Green and Nolah Natural are no exception. Both are premium mattresses at full retail price, but slip into upper-mid price tiers thanks to regular discounts.
In the Avocado mattress sales, there's often around 5-15% off. Meanwhile, the monthly Nolah mattress deals saves you 35% on most mattresses. At full MSRP, the Nolah Natural is the more expensive bed — but its generous evergreen discount means you can often get it for less. A queen Nolah Natural typically costs $1,354, compared to a queen Avocado which usually costs between $1,699 and $1,849.
With discounts taken into consideration, the Nolah Natural is the cheaper option. It has a longer warranty, too. Its lifetime warranty beats Avocado's 25-year warranty, but bear in mind that as the average lifespan of a latex bed is around 25 years, a forever warranty may be superfluous. In terms of sleep trials, Nolah offers 120 nights to try the Natural out, but Avocado lets you test the Green mattress for an entire year.
Avocado Green vs Nolah Natural Mattress: Materials & design
- Both stand at 11" and have a latex innerspring hybrid design
- Avocado Green has two internal layers, Nolah Natural has five
- Both use GOLS-certified and GOTS-certified materials
While most of our picks in this year's best hybrid mattress guide are made with memory foam (alongside springs), the Avocado Green and Nolah Natural hybrid mattresses use latex foam instead. Both are 11" fiberglass-free mattresses and contain GOLS-certified Dunlop latex, recycled steel coils, and GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool.
The differences lie in their build, not their materials. The Avocado Green has a simple design, with a cover and two internal layers: a foam layer and coil layer. It also has handles for easy maneuvering. Meanwhile, the Nolah Natural has five internal layers with a top and lower cover that also features handles.
Both contain wool, but Avocado offers a vegan, wool-free version of the mattress for the same price.
Avocado Green vs Nolah Natural Mattress: Comfort & support
- Neither are for side sleepers who love a soft or ultra-plush mattress
- We rate the supportive Avocado a 7/10 on the firmness scale
- We rate the responsive Nolah Natural a 7/10 on the firmness scale
We tested both the Avocado Green and the Nolah Natural, in our Avocado Green mattress review and Nolah Natural mattress review respectively, and we found that both are medium firm, scoring around 7/10 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest).
Neither are soft enough for side sleepers, but the Avocado Green does give the option to upgrade the Avocado Green with a plush pillow-top at an extra cost. Without the pillow-top, however, this is a firm mattress that offers good support for stomach sleepers.
We found the Nolah Natural lives up to its title as Nolah's most responsive bed, and those who like to move around and change position throughout the night should like this mattress. However, the edge support isn't great, and back sleepers may not feel it's as supportive as the Avocado Green.
The bounciness of the Nolah Natural might also be an issue if you share a bed, although we were overall impressed with the motion isolation. But the Avocado Green does a better job at absorbing movement, meaning you can share with a restless partner and not be disturbed.
Avocado vs Nolah Mattress: Temperature regulation
- Latex is a naturally breathable material
- Both mattresses offer a neutral sleep feel
- Natural materials aid temperature regulation
The best cooling mattresses maintain a neutral temperature overnight, and natural materials are known for their breathability. While the Avocado Green and Nolah Natural might not come loaded with sleep tech, we found even hot sleepers could snooze comfortably on warm nights with these mattresses.
In a head-to-head comparison, the Avocado Green comes out slightly higher: we gave it five stars for temperature regulation, in contrast to 4.5 for the Nolah Natural. However, there's very little to choose between these beds when it comes to cooling.
