Azealia Banks has reversed her support for Donald Trump and now says she will vote for Kamala Harris.
The controversial rapper has supported Trump since 2016 and even attended the 78-year-old former president’s rally in Doral, Florida in July, announced on Monday that she will be casting her vote for Harris instead, citing concerns of Trump’s close ties with Elon Musk, 53.
“For as stupid and incoherent Kamala Harris is and as trash as [Tim] Walz is, and despite the fact that Kamala Harris is the only Democratic Nominee to not have actively campainged (sic) in a Primary (the most undemocratic shit ever, and really says alot (sic) about her supporters lack of commonsense)... I really think keeping Elon Musk away from any type of political power in the USA is tantamount to any issue on the table here,” Banks, 33, wrote to her X account.
“You have to be a complete idiot to think that dirtbag cares about anyone or anything other than himself,” she continued in the lengthy post. “He's already been given way too much tax payer money - Allowing him to ascend to any position of political authority is very fucking dangerous. One does not become the richest man in the world because of honesty and good character lol, you must be an expert liar, thief and cheater to become that.”
The “212” rapper then accused Musk of mistreating employees, manipulating business ventures like PayPal and Tesla, and exploiting his personal relationship with singer Grimes.
Banks also expressed concern over Trump's alliance with vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and his antagonism towards China, which she worries could lead to disastrous results. She also criticized what she called the “delusional” idea that Trump could deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
“In Conclusion, I will be Voting For Kamala Harris tomorrow because Elon Musk (a fucking overrated Ketamine addict) belongs no where near American Politics. The End,” she added.
As explained by Vox’s Eric Vevitz, Musk has become a significant supporter of Trump’s 2024 campaign, contributing over $75 million and using his platform X (formerly Twitter) to promote the former president’s message. Musk voiced support for a “temporary hardship” under Trump’s economic policies, but promised eventual economic recovery.
If elected, Trump also announced that he would appoint Musk to lead a “government efficiency commission” aimed at slashing federal spending by $2 trillion, which Musk acknowledged could trigger an economic “storm” in combination with Trump’s mass deportation plan.
It’s worth mentioning that Banks has her own history with Musk, whom she nicknames “Apartheid Clyde” in reference to his South African upbringing.
In 2018, the Broke With Expensive Taste rapper was invited to Musk and Grimes’ home to collaborate on music. However, the visit took an unexpected turn as Banks claimed she was left alone in the mansion while Grimes tended to Musk.
Banks documented the experience on her Instagram account, comparing it to Get Out, hurling insults at both Musk and Grimes, which led to a feud and eventually a subpoena in a shareholder lawsuit against the Tesla CEO.
