Monty Don has made a triumphant return to the stage following his recent health scare that led to the cancellation of six shows.

The Gardeners' World star, 69, was hospitalised for several days, during which he informed his followers that he was "on drips and the rest of it."

Although he did not disclose the reason for his hospitalisation, the broadcaster confirmed earlier this week that he had been discharged and was on the mend.

This weekend, the beloved gardener announced his return to his An Audience With Monty Don tour. He shared the exciting news with his fans on social media, posting pictures from his dressing room at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich and the Cambridge Corn Exchange.

"I'm back on the road and at the Regent theatre Ipswich," he captioned the snap. "As dressing rooms go this has the charm of a polling booth - but the theatre is great and it will be a good evening."

In addition, he posted two photos of the live music venue in Cambridge, with one featuring fruit, water and tea in his dressing room.

The horticulturist wrote: "Tonight it's Cambridge Corn Exchange- last time I was here was in 1977 to watch wrestling..."

Fans took to the comment section to urge Monty to take care of himself following his health scare, with one writing: "Your health is more important than touring, although we love to see you. Please take it easy xxx."

Another echoed: "Please Monty, really take care of yourself! We all appreciate you so much - just don't let your sense of responsibility to others cause harm to you."

A third shared: "Loved your evening @ Ipswich last night. Hope you felt the very warm welcome, we certainly appreciated your visit!"

Another concerned fan expressed: "We all hope you are not overdoing it. Enjoy!"

The wave of support came shortly after Monty reassured his followers that he was on the mend, posting a frost-kissed snapshot of his Herefordshire garden with the caption: "Morning #gettingbetter."

After being inundated with well-wishes, Monty took to social media again on Wednesday in a video, apologising for the cancellation of his talks in Exeter, Truro, Bath and Nottingham due to his health scare.

Addressing his 1.3 million followers, he began: "Hello. I am so sorry to have disappointed all those people who were going to come and see me in Exeter and Truro and Bath and Nottingham.

"On Friday afternoon, I was rushed to A&E. I was kept in at the hospital over Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and had to have drips and all the rest of it. But I came home last night, and I'm feeling much better."

Monty added: "I'm going to spend the next few days quietly recuperating here at home and hopefully by the weekend I'll be back to full fitness."
