I'm A Celeb: Dean McCullough struggles through first task

BBC Radio 1 loyalties were forgotten on the last night's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! launch show, as Dean McCullough ditched his co-worker Melvin Odoom in favour of teaming up with Queen of the WAGs Coleen Rooney.

Many ITV viewers watching at home were stunned by Dean's decision - including Greg James. The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast DJ took to social media to share his thoughts on the epic snub from Dean - jokingly branding the 32-year-old camper "a snake"

During Sunday night's opening episode of I'm A Celebrity, the stars faced their inaugural challenge of the ITV series, with five stars skydiving onto a beach to join the rest of the campmates. Danny Jones bravely went first, teaming up with ex-boxer Barry McGuigan before they hopped into Jeeps to race for the title of camp leader.

Tulisa Contostavlos chose Corrie legend Alan Halsall, Jane Moore picked her Loose Women pal GK Barry, leaving Coleen and Melvin Odoom as the last ones standing. Radio 1's Dean McCullough was next to make a sandy landing, causing a stir among viewers as he called out Coleen's infamous moniker for the very first time on air.

Sprinting towards Coleen and his Radio 1 colleague Melvin, Dean exclaimed: "Melvin I'm so, so sorry, but... Wagatha Christie, you're coming with me! " Coleen couldn't hide her reaction, wincing and chuckling as she dashed off with her new teammate. Coleen wasn't the only one left cringing.

Posting on his Instagram Stories on Sunday night, Greg shared a snap of himself pulling a quizzical face as he told his followers: "Urrrm Dean didn't pick Melvin?!" The cheeky broadcaster then shared a still of Barry getting cosy with a snake, captioning it: "They should send Dean in as one of the snakes after that behaviour.

Greg wasn't the only one to pick up on Dean's 'betrayal'. "Wait. Dean didn’t pick Melvin?? The teams at Radio 1 must be FUMING #ImACeleb," one viewer mused on Twitter last night. "I wasn’t expecting dean turning down Melvin #ImACeleb," another added, as a third quipped: "dean has just stabbed Melvin in the back lol #ImACeleb."

Also in this year’s series is Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall, internet personality and Loose Women host GK Barry and former Irish boxer Barry McGuigan. After the celebrities paired up, Tulisa and Alan became leaders of the camp, and selected Barry and Danny Jones to do the first Bushtucker trial of the series.

Barry had difficulties opening the padlocks to get stars while he was kept in a rectangular chamber as snakes crawled all over him. He admitted to Danny he "couldn’t help him", called himself "useless" and said the situation was "terrible" as he failed to get any of the locks open.

Danny got all five stars while having a snake crawling up his clothes, and earned the camps some meals. Following a public vote, GK was chosen to face the next Bushtucker trial, titled the "vile volcano".
