The One Show star Alex Jones, 47, has revealed why she and her husband Charlie Thomson decided against buying Mary Berry's house. The couple had previously toured the home of the renowned food writer and former Bake Off star, but ultimately chose not to purchase it.

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, Alex described the house as "lovely" but explained that its layout was not suitable for her tall husband. She told host Kate Thornton that the house was essentially two different styles merged into one, with one part being quite cottage-like.

This proved problematic for Charlie, who stands nearly six foot three. Alex likened him to Roald Dahl's character, the BFG, in a Polly Pocket house. The couple, who have been married since 2015 and share three children, recently moved homes after 11 years and added a Labrador puppy to their family.

Taking to Instagram, she shared: "So, I have a bit of news. On Monday night - and it's taken me a few days to process it - I came home and Charlie was standing in the middle of the drive with what I thought was a jumper.", reports Wales Online. She continued, "And then, this black jumper moved. I got out of the car and said, 'Whose dog is that? ' and he said, 'It's ours.' We have a new arrival - come here Scout! We have a new little baby. He's 10 and a half weeks old - he's gorgeous."

The BBC presenter has previously opened up about the challenges of balancing motherhood and her career, confessing that it often leaves her feeling like she's running herself ragged. In an interview with Fabric Magazine, she confessed to feeling "super guilty" for leaving them but emphasised her love for her job and its role in keeping the family afloat.

She further explained that she spends as much time as possible with them before heading off to work. She concluded by saying, "And then I rush home to try and do their last story before they go to sleep. I haven't got the solution – I just basically try and do it all."

Last year, Alex revealed she feared losing her husband amid his heartbreaking mental health battle.

She shared that her husband, with whom she has three children, "wasn't very well" last year and went through a difficult period of poor mental health, which deeply affected their entire family. Charlie's struggles began after he was diagnosed with viral meningitis and Lyme disease.

The BBC star has now shared more heartbreaking details, admitting that she didn't know what to do as she watched her husband suffer. Speaking on Fearne Cotton's podcast Happy Place, Alex bravely detailed how the ordeal impacted her mentally and emotionally.

For the sake of her husband's privacy, Alex didn't share too much detail about his battle with mental health, but she told podcast host Fearne: "Everybody has periods where you just don't feel great. I mean going back to my late 20s - woah. Looking back now, that was a mess. And I've talked before, my husband has suffered in the past."

Podcast host Fearne then replied: "It's your husband's story, we don't need to get into your husband, but as you just touched on, he had a bad patch of mental health. It's hard as a partner that you can't fix them. That's quite a frustrating feeling. How did you navigate that?"

To which Alex shared: "You're right. I went quite 1980s and was like - right, come on. That was the way I had been brought up. Snap out of it. It was grim. I didn't know what to do. In general, I think people don't reach out when they're in despair."

Alex admitted that she thought she was going to lose her beloved husband. In a heartbreaking confession, she said: "I was looking at him and thinking I'm looking and hearing somebody who is not my husband". However, one year on, Charlie is now recovering and in a 'much better place' than he was. BBC star Alex has urged others who are suffering in silence with their mental health to reach out to their loved ones to share their burdens.
