There's an attempted poach job happening in Chicago.
The Bears are seeking permission from the Dallas Cowboys to interview head coach Mike McCarthy for their head coaching position, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
"Chicago Bears have sought permission to interview Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and are awaiting a response from Dallas, sources tell me and @toddarcher," Schefter posted to X. "If the Cowboys don't allow permission this week, the Bears could interview McCarthy after his exclusive negotiating window with Dallas expires Jan. 14.
McCarthy just concluded another underwhelming season in Dallas, finishing 7-10 and in third place of the NFC East.
Regardless of the Bears' interest, the Cowboys have a difficult decision ahead with McCarthy anyway as he enters the final year of his contract. If owner Jerry Jones should decide to keep McCarthy onboard, the Cowboys would need to work on extending him expeditiously.
