AirPods Max

AirPods Max

Launched alongside the iPhone 16 Series, the AirPods Max were one of the best wireless headphones to be released in 2024. While it wasn’t a complete overhaul of design and soundstage, Apple added the essential USB Type-C port to the headphones and introduced new colour options. Its Rs 59,900 price tag makes it one of the most expensive wireless headphones in the market, but its soundstage and connectivity remain unparalleled.

If you own other Apple devices, the AirPods Max will fit perfectly into the ecosystem. The 40mm dynamic drivers produce a lush and nuanced soundstage. The intelligent H1 chip gets the best out of the headphones. When it comes to Active Noise Cancellation, the AirPods Max remain the best headphones out there for the job. The knit mesh headband and ear cushions are as comfortable as they are premium. The headphones are available in 5 colour options – Blue, Orange, Midnight, Purple, and Starlight.

Dyson OnTrac

 Performance

Dyson’s sophomore wireless headphones really impressed us this year. Its ear cushions and exterior covers are customisable, the latter available in 3 metal CNC options and 1 ceramic variety. The headphones have an ergonomic design, with the earcups positioned at a 13˚ angle for a more direct sonic response. We reviewed the Dyson OnTrac soon after it was released and were floored by its premium build quality, unique design, and exquisite soundstage.

The 40mm dynamic drivers produce a balanced and detailed soundstage that doesn’t muddle the mix with a boosted low end. The mids and the highs are well integrated into the mix. While the audio output isn’t truly neutral, it has that ‘pop’ that makes listening to music all the more enjoyable. Apart from the lush soundstage, the OnTrac headphones also offer respectable noise cancellation. The headphones can cancel up to 40dB of surrounding sound. On a single charge, the OnTrac can last up to 55 hours with ANC turned on and 60 hours without it.

Pros

  • Unique design
  • Metal build
  • Great soundstage

Sony ULT Wear (WH-ULT900N)

design Best Wireless Headphones of 2024

Sony’s new ULT series had a lot of surprises in store for us this year. The new ‘ULT’ range rocked everything from portable speakers to an audio tower. The only pair of headphones in the series, ULT Wear, put up a decent performance as well. These headphones are equipped with Sony’s in-house V1 chip and 40mm dynamic drivers. The result is a lush and detailed soundstage that is very close to Sony’s best. The special ‘ULT’ button on the headphones bumps up the bass in the mix. The ULT Wear supports SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs, with support for the low-latency LC3 codec arriving soon.

The V1 chip also contributes to digitally cancelling the surrounding noise. When we used the Sony ULT Wear, we were able to completely nullify the ambient sounds from the ceiling fan and air conditioner. There’s also a handy transparency mode onboard which helps you in having conversations with people around you. Sony has also equipped these headphones with premium proprietary features like 360 Reality Audio. Sonic Lamb

Performance Best Wireless Headphones of 2024

We reviewed the Sonic Lamb headphones earlier this year and were blown away by their next-level audio immersion. These headphones use a 27mm Impulse Driver that brings a subwoofer experience to the device. This driver works in tandem with a 40mm dynamic driver in either earcup. There are 4 immersion modes on this headset – Hear, Feel, Immerse, and Beast. These modes can be toggled using the physical scroll wheel on the left earcup.

The ‘Hear’ mode is your standard listening profile with no extra immersion. Things begin kicking into gear with the ‘Feel’ mode, as the Impulse membrane comes to life. In ‘Beast’ mode, the headphones are finally swinging at their highest level, as you can hear the membrane produce an amazing woofer-like sensation. The 1,400mAh battery pack on these headphones can power them for 24 hours in Hear mode. In Beast mode, the battery life drops down to 7 hours. Check out our review of the Sonic Lamb headphones to know more.
