The Milwaukee Bucks appear to be on a downward spiral. Their 2-8 record places them 14th in the lowly Eastern Conference.
This record is a far cry from where many expect them to be and where they should be. Nonetheless, the Bucks are not a very good team, which means that their superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, could be on his way out.
Antetokounmpo is still at the top of his game, and with a Bucks team seeming to go nowhere, even with a solid trade that they cannot accomplish due to lack of resources, it seems that he could be moved.
Many experts and pundits have their own take on where Antetokounmpo should land, but the one that makes the most sense comes from NBA sports writer and podcaster Bill Simmons.
Simmons said in his latest podcast on The Ringer that he insists Antetokounmpo to the Brooklyn Nets is a home run for both sides.
"I think the Giannis trade stuff is really going to have people start making up fake trades," Simmons said. "And the Nets are pretty good, I think they can go all in for Giannis. They have a ton of picks: they have Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, Nic Claxton, and Dennis Schröder, who is playing really well. People are going to ask what team makes sense for Giannis, and I actually think it's Brooklyn. They can just overwhelm Milwaukee with all these picks. I think it makes sense. Milwaukee needs to get out of this, and to me, it's either Brooklyn or Houston."
If the Bucks continue on this trend, it won't be a matter of 'if' but 'when' the Bucks will trade Antetokounmpo.
The 29-year-old is still in the prime of his career, and it's clear that he wants to compete for another championship. That may not happen in Brooklyn or Houston, as Simmons mentioned, but it certainly won't happen in Milwaukee with how they are structured.
Milwaukee desperately needs to get younger, and a trade with Brooklyn could put them on that track. It would solve a ton of problems for both sides, but it is still too early to tell if this will take action.
Milwaukee would love to make a trade to get them in contention alongside Antetokounmpo; however, the Bucks are in no position to make a trade, at least one that would enhance their chances of being a title contender. The Bucks only have one first-round pick available to trade in 2031 and one second-round pick.
The Bucks are stuck in the middle, and in the NBA, that is the last place a team wants to be in.
