The Potter’s House senior pastor has given supporters an update on his health in a video message to church members. This comes just one week after suffering a medical emergency during a sermon, which led to the Bishop being rushed to the hospital.

In the message to members of the megachurch Potter’s House of Dallas, Jakes revealed that he underwent emergency surgery, asking congregants to “praise God that we’re not planning a funeral.”

“Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” he said in the video. “I faced a life-threatening calamity, was rushed to the ICU unit, had emergency surgery, survived the surgery.”

This update comes following a startling moment during his sermon on Sunday, Nov. 24, during which Jakes could be seen putting down his microphone and shaking in his seat before those around him rushed to help. Shortly thereafter, the church released a statement saying that Bishop T.D. Jakes, “experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message.”

Now, Jakes is speaking about the incident for the first time, saying in the video message that he is now recovering while expressing his gratitude to be alive.

“I’m grateful to God for his goodness and his mercy, and to not just our local church, but to to the global community that follows this ministry,” Jakes said.

He went on to say that he’s following his doctor’s orders to “go slow” while taking the proper time to rest and recover.

“I’m in good spirits,” he continued. “I feel good, I’m in no pain, I’m in peace and tranquility, and I want you to know that I can feel your prayers.”

While the Bishop did not share his diagnosis, he did say he’s thankful he did not have a stroke in a post on X, emphasizing that the “event could’ve been fatal if it weren’t for God’s intervention.”

“A special thank you to God and the medical professionals in our city whose speed and expertise were beyond exceptional,” he wrote.
