The Toronto Blue Jays whiffed on Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Teoscar Hernández, and many other players this winter. They haven't quite recovered from these losses yet.
The only way to recover from theses losses is to sign other players in free agency.
ESPN's Jeff Passan recently suggested the Blue Jays could pursue both pitcher Tanner Scott and outfielder Anthony Santander in free agency. Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects Santander to sign for $100 million and Scott to sign for $54 million.
"Anthony Santander would hit plenty of home runs at Rogers Centre. A remade bullpen is a necessity, and Tanner Scott could anchor it," Passan wrote. "There is enough talent still in Toronto, particularly with a rotation that's among the best in the game, to spend its way to contention this year and give Guerrero even more reason to stay.
"What the Jays have -- and what can finally take them out of a yearlong rut that started with the pursuit of Shohei Ohtani and continues unabated into a third calendar year -- is money. And sooner than later, someone is bound to take it."
Toronto has the money and it needs to spend it. Adding Scott would help with the backend of the bullpen that struggled in 2024. The lefty is one of the best closers in baseball and he would he a huge addition to any team's bullpen.
Santander is coming off a career year in which he clubbed 44 home runs with a good OPS. He's not a great defender, but his bat more than makes up for that.
If Toronto can acquire both of these players, it'd be in a much better spot than it is in right now.
