The Toronto Blue Jays have put together an exciting, yet disappointing offseason thus far. They've found themselves mixed up in the free agency sweepstakes of a lot of different franchise-altering stars. This includes Juan Soto, Max Fried, Corbin Burnes, and a few others. That's really exciting for a team.
But they came up short on everybody except outfielder Anthony Santander. And they've failed to land a contract extension for superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or infielder Bo Bichette. That's disappointing.
They're not done yet, though. FanSided's Robert Murray recently reported the Blue Jays are showing interest in a few key free agents including at least one future Hall of Famer.
"The Toronto Blue Jays continue to show interest in free agents Max Scherzer and Pete Alonso, sources say," Murray reported.
While the Alonso news seems like common knowledge at this point, the Scherzer update may be a bit of a surprise.
Toronto has looked to add pitching throughout the entire offseason but ultimately whiffed on both Fried and Burnes. With most of the top names off the board, the Blue Jays could opt for an affordable veteran with a history of success over a younger star like Jack Flaherty.
The Blue Jays need to continue to make moves after acquiring Santander. While this is a huge signing and a step in the right direction, they still appear to be the third or fourth-best team in the loaded American League East. Scherzer would certainly help.
