Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel revealed just months ago that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 43.

And now the American actress has spoken about her shock diagnosis, and admitting her breast cancer scars almost kept her from attending the world premiere of Disney's Wizards Beyond Waverly Place in Los Angeles on Monday.

Speaking to People at the event, the star said her "whole life has changed" after getting cancer but said she's determined not to let her scars knock her confidence.

"I'm so honoured to have been able to direct a couple of episodes of it," she said about the show.

"And at the same time, everything I wanted to put on, I was like, 'I can see my scars in that. Oh, I can see my scars in that.'"

"And then, I was like, 'Why am I going to let that be a factor in deciding to live my life?'"

Just two months ago, Fishel shared her breast cancer diagnosis on her Pod Meets World podcast

At the time, Fishel explained she was battling ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which affects the milk ducts of the breast, and said she's lucky as she caught the disease ''very, very early".

She said she was "diagnosed with high grade DCIS with micro invasion" but insisted she was ''going to be fine''.

"And I'm going to be fine, I'm having surgery to remove it," she said, alongside some "follow up treatment".

Fishel said that in sharing her story, she hopes people will stay on top of their health checks and mammogram appointments, as that is why she caught the cancer so early.

"I hope to encourage people to get in there. If you have to find out you have cancer find out when it's stage zero if possible."
