Britney Spears and her mom, Lynne Spears, are trying to repair their broken relationship, and a source says there’s growing hope the one time matriarch will be front and center of her daughter’s life in 2025.
“Lynne has never given up hope, no matter how dark things got she prayed and kept the faith that Britney would let her back into her world and it does appear to have worked. Britney has been softening towards her little by little and the word is she’s promised that they can take a trip together next year, somewhere nice and quiet just the two of them,” an insider exclusively tells In Touch. “Lynne is overjoyed but folks are telling her to temper it a little and keep her expectations realistic because Britney does tend to change her mind a lot, but Lynne won’t listen. She’s convinced that she’s made real progress.”
The source says that Lynne, 69, has done things “differently this past year,” including taking “more of a hands-off approach.” While Lynne “wanted to call Britney and fly to her rescue,” she ultimately “waited for her to call” and the approach “worked well.”
“Now Britney feels her mom respects her and isn’t forcing things which she appreciates,” the insider adds. “Lynne dreams of a day when the whole family could come together but for now she’s focusing on one day at a time and just doing all she can to keep the door open with Britney.”
The news of Britney, 43, and Lynne attempting to mend their relationship comes on the heels of news that the “Oops! I Did It Again” singer recently reunited with her youngest son, Jayden, and said she ‘would love a second chance’ with both him and his older brother, Preston.
“In many ways, Britney seems much happier than she was last year,” a source told Us Weekly on December 18, adding that Jayden, 18, was “open to mending the relationship with his mom and seeing where things go.”
“They’ve been getting along great,” the insider told the outlet. “Britney’s convinced they’ll have a flourishing relationship in the near future. It’s all she ever talks about. She would love a second chance with [Jayden and Preston].”
Britney’s relationship with “Lynne has been rocky [recently],” according to the publication, but the Grammy winner “wants to improve [their relationship].”
“She misses her and gets sad about her family dynamic,” the source explained.
Britney’s relationship with her family has been contentious for years, and the “Toxic” songstress was even slammed by Jayden after he and Preston, 19, opted out of attending her wedding to Sam Ashari in June 2022. Jayden later opened up about his feelings regarding his mom and his problems with the content she shared on social media.
“It’s almost as if she has to post something on Instagram to get attention,” he told ITV during an interview in September 2022. This has gone on for years and years and years, and there’s a high chance that this is never going to really stop, but I’m hoping for me, maybe she will.”
While Britney initially fired back in a post on Instagram saying she was “deeply saddened” by Jayden’s remarks, the message has since been deleted.
