Brooke Shields denounces what a surgeon did to her during vaginal lip surgery

Beautiful actress Brooke Shields gave a series of minute details about the aesthetics of her vagina, as one of the most curious passages of her forthcoming memoir, entitled 'Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman'.

Shields, considered one of the most beautiful women in the world in the 1980s, explained that in her youth she suffered some discomfort in her intimate area, because of the length of her vaginal lips, which had caused problems of discomfort, bleeding and chafing since she was in high school

So, as a possible solution, she explained that her gynecologist recommended that she have labiaplasty and even gave her a "little bonus", which she found quite unpleasant

Brooke Shields' intimate health mishaps

To begin with, the actress explained that she had to pay for the surgery herself, as her insurance conditions did not consider it a medical problem

"Of course, insurance didn't cover it because it's considered cosmetic, which is very interesting," the 59-year-old actress explained in an interview with Us Weekly. "The last time I checked, I didn't want to be a porn star," she quipped.

After the surgery, when she went for a check-up with her Beverly Hills surgeon, he proudly informed her that he had added "a little bonus" that she was unaware of and did not agree with

Shields explained that the surgeon also performed a vaginal rejuvenation, which consists of "decreasing the average diameter of the vagina, mainly caused by sexual activity," according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

When she learned of the fact, the actress revealed that she was "perplexed," by what she considered an "irreversible... invasion" and claims she felt she was the victim of a "violation of some kind."

"Nothing pointed to that need to be tighter, smaller, firmer or younger, especially there," she said in her interview

She even admitted that for a long time she did not want to reveal to her husband Chris Henchy that she had suffered this treatment, which she considered invasive, because she felt deeply ashamed of the experience

Therefore, when she reflected on this traumatic experience, she understood that she had to "share this very intimate information" with her readers even though it was "too graphic or just too extensive."

"If we want to change the way we approach and talk about women's health, then we need to address the uncomfortable but very real issues. Shame is no longer an option," she said

That's why, at this stage in her career, she has decided to share the different traumatic situations she faced throughout her career, one of the most dramatic, in her 2023 documentary 'Pretty Baby', where she revealed that she was raped by a Hollywood executive when she was just 20 years old

About the incident, Shields revealed to People in August of the following year that her eldest daughter already knew about the assault, while her youngest daughter, Grier,"said she had no idea" and felt "helpless" to learn that "something bad" had happened to her mother.
