The Boss is a fan of The Bear. Bruce Springsteen praised Jeremy Allen White‘s performance in the upcoming Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” calling him a “terrific actor.”
Production began on “Deliver Me From Nowhere” in October, and Springsteen was photographed visiting the New Jersey set in November. In an interview on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio at the start of the year, Bruce was asked if it is strange to see someone portraying you in a movie.
“A little bit at first, but you get over that pretty quick, and Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall into it,” Springsteen said. “He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize, so he’s done a great job. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
White is also singing in the film, and Springsteen was a fan of that too.
“He sings well. He sings very well, he said.
“Deliver Me From Nowhere,” directed by Scott Cooper, focuses on the period of time in which Springsteen recorded his 1982 album “Nebraska.” The stripped down, acoustic masterpiece was a controversial departure from Springsteen’s sweeping rock anthems that were topping the charts at the time, including his 1981 “The River Tour” off of a massive double album.
The film also stars Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau, as well as Odessa Young as Faye, a love interest in Springsteen’s life. Paul Walter Hauser plays guitar tech Mike Batlan, Sir Stephen Graham portays Springsteen’s father, and Johnny Cannizzaro plays E Street Band member Stevie Van Zandt (“The Sopranos”). Springsteen said the film was cast “beautifully” and called the actors “tremendous.”
Searchlight Pictures is releasing “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” though the film does not yet have a release date. Springsteen was already in the Disney-movie business with the recent release of the documentary film “Road Diary,” which followed Springsteen on tour in an intimate portrait from director Thom Zimny. The film first premiered at TIFF and later debuted on Disney+ and Hulu.
