Buckshot, pioneering member of 1990s underground rap groups Black Moon, Boot Camp Clik and Crooklyn Dodgers, was viciously assaulted in an incident that left him hospitalized last week.
A video from October 28 recently circulated, showing Buckshot bloodied, swollen, and kneeling on the sidewalk after an assault in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Flatbush.
In a statement to AllHipHop, Buckshot, born Kenyatta Blake, confirmed that he was targeted in the incident, claiming it was carried out by 'unauthorized occupants' of a Flatbush property he owns.
"To all my friends, fans, and supporters—thank you for reaching out during this difficult time," Buckshot's statement began. "Recently, I was the victim of a violent assault involving multiple individuals armed with weapons, including handguns. This attack stems from ongoing disputes over my property, where I am the rightful owner but have faced issues with unauthorized occupants who escalated the situation to violence."
The Brooklyn native, 49, also expressed discontent that the assault occurred in his hometown.
"As someone who’s been an entertainer and part of this community for over 30 years, I am deeply disturbed that such an incident could happen in New York—a city I love and call home," he continued. "Violence like this has no place here, and I’m calling on everyone to come together to make New York safer and better for all of us."
He concluded by assuring fans that he plans to seek justice.
"I am currently recovering from my injuries and am working closely with my legal team and law enforcement to ensure this matter is handled properly,” Buckshot added. "We are committed to seeing justice served, and I ask for your patience and support as the legal process unfolds. Again, thank you for all the well wishes. Let’s put an end to violence and help rebuild a stronger, safer New York."
Another statement from Buckshot's record label, Duck Down Music, shared that since being released from the hospital, the rapper is "doing OK and recovering." While well wishes to Buckshot's official social media pages were encouraged, it was also urged for the aforementioned video to be reported.
Sending Buckshot our best wishes for a full recovery, and we hope to see him back on stage soon.
